im really sorry to hear that man. i agree with everybody else, tube it and go
It definitly sucks, but I do see the bright future. Ladder style tube front frame rails, and coilover hoops, and a dovenose. I was already planning it, now my insurance can help fund it. Anybody here bought a wreck back from insurance? What did you pay vs bluebook value.
Heres some pics.
frame buckling
Damn, that sucks. Good luck with phase 2 of the build.
Quit yer bitchin'! Shit'll buff out. All you need is a Ding King
Buybacks might vary by state/ company, but IIRC both of mine were 10% what the insurance company decided it was worth.
At least it looks like all the damage is in front of the firewall. Think of it as the Jeep god's way of telling you to get of your ass and finish your plans.
A little humor is always good after some piece of trash totals your ride.
I'd go with box tubing any day of the week for rails. I used 2x3 3/16 for the front 2.5 or so feet of my YJ's frame, but I'd be more comfortable with 2x4 for that kind of a span with the motor hanging off of it. Just think - it'll be tits to not have to scab and plate the unibody for the shock towers.
i concur with the 2x3 maybe a little bigger ust to have a little extra wiggle room.
Fuck It. 2x4 boxed sounds great. Maybe some inset round tube every so often to ad some strength, and displayed at the miters to create the arched frame. If that makes sense. Haha talking to state farm tomorrow to see what I'll get money wise. I'm angry yet excited now haha
Sounds like you've got a plan
I wonder what the pay out is on totalling a ZJ these days. The last accident I was in was in the ZJ about 3 years ago - I got sideswipped on the interstate in a pileup and every panel on the driver's side got hit. Their insurance (State Farm) cut me a check for $3,400 without totalling it. I was pretty surprised with that for a 96 ZJ with 175k miles.
Hard telling what they'll do for you now with the tanked economy, but good luck. Should be more than enough for materials and COs either way
The mood you leave the insurance company office will depend on your financial position. They won't give you crap for it and will want a small fortune to sell it to you as a total. Been there before. And the very reason I do not drive modded vehicles on the street anymore.
Best of luck though.

I will be buying it back regardless. I know I cant expect much for a 1993 pos. After The adjuster left today, i started tearing it down. I stepped back and thought "another shitbox in progress" then laughed.
Here is how I left it tonight.
That sucks but at least you're making the best of a shitty situation! Do you think you're going to rebuild the front frame to make it look stock, i.e. fender and hood in their normal spots? Or looking at dovetailing it?
Think narrowed grille, round headlights, dovenose, wedge shaped hood, and lots of tube. No stock fenders, tube fenders instead.
Awesome!
Just talked to State Farm, after my deductable, salvage buy back cost, taxes and fees, I'm getting 3700 to fix my jeep. I'm so stoked.
Very good news man! Can't wait to see where this project takes you!
Do you have another commuter vehicle or will some of that cash go towards that?
I have a 1999 haro bike. Haha work is 12 miles away, and the weather is cooling off rapidly, the last week sucked. I can get a ride most times if needed though. I was thinking about buying a dd car, but now I'm thinking of buying all the parts I need, then just taking a week or two off and hammering it all out quick.
Fix the block yet? Saw your post on pirate.
Fixed the motor mount, Nick never called me back, but I made a new mount that bolts to the block in 4 locations. I'll get some pics soon.
As much as I want to say use the money on the jeep. I have been in your shoes and spent the money on the jeep. It was the wrong choice since I had to buy a DD a few months later because my wheeler had become just a little to much for DD duty. I dumped $10K in my rig and bought a $1300 ZJ. Wish I would have bought a $10K tow rig and dumped $1000 into my rig just to make it wheelable again.
I'm still just on 35s and small axles, I enjoyed it as a dd. If the wreck hadn't happened I'd still be dd'ing the zj, so that probably wont change, plus the zj kicks ass in the colorado snow. I want a new welder before I buy a new car. Been eyeing an Esab for a while.
My TJ was too. It was rubi 44's front and rear with 35's and a 3". but it was also spooled and the roll made it where a top wouldn't go on.
