is your cage tied to the roof with plates or what?
Chop saw cut all of it. Had to buy enough material to make several though. The acme threaded rod was only available in 6' pieces though. I ended up using 12" is all. Not a kit, not my idea either. I've seen a few home made and someone sells them online too.
Cowboy, the pillars protrude though holes in the roof, then a halo will cap it all off. Soon.
ahhh got ya, i like the idea
You beat me to it. I have been wanting to make one for a long time.

What did it cost to make the homemade?
About 90$. But you have to remember that the acme rod was almost 40$ for 6'. With all the extrar materials I have left, I might build one or two more to sell. I have a better idea for the next one though, a bit bigger and alot stronger design.
Looks way good! I think a flat belly skid is my next thing. After I finish the other boatside lol
Fred, I'll sell ya the one pictured if you want. I'll have to see if there is a cheap flat rate box that it'll fit in. this thing is really heavy.
now heres a q. for you, i have seen the cage tie in's on JK's and TJ's for the front using flate plate bent to go around the side of the dash, think that concept could be applied for us as well?
this it what im talking about

There is some new bolt in zj cage that uses plate along the dash sides just like that. Personally I think it is a weak design and I wouldn't go that direction with a cage. My a pillars wil be exo tied into the roof halo. That will be safer, stronger than flat plate, and may keep my windshield from being destroyed in a roll.
Plz tell me that isnt the only way it is tied into the a pillar. Those three bolts go into pal nuts for christ sake. Barely adequate to hold the dash in IMO.
It's kind of difficult to explain, but once you start cutting you should understand better. First I cut the lip out of the rear fenders, this leaves two, thin pieces of fender with bare cut edges, the inner and outer, I cut the inner fender ONLY next. I cut it back about an inch, so I could fold the OUTER fender inward 90* OVER the inner fender cut, I ground the inner fender and the outer fender with a flap disc, then welded it all the way up and over the tire. Around the curve, I had to cut releaf cuts about every inch, so the curved fender could be folded, and still have the curved shape. When I cut my brothers ZJ's fenders, I'll get step by step pictures.
man this thing is awesome
Was awesome. Totaled now.
Some Asshole makes a left right in front of me, I had no time to stop, I t-bone him, after the dust settles, i see him get back on the road and jet. His Car, 4 door sedan, is beat. But he got away. My front right framerail is majorly buckled, the rear driveshaft somehow popped out of the t-case. Haha I couldn't even chase the guy. The hood is fubar, framerail is buckled, radiator is toast. All because I took off my heavy front bumper. It may go buggy, but for now I need a daily driver.
Oh man. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the cops find a buckled sedan outside an er and an asshole with internal injuries inside.
FAWK man that's fuckin lame =/.
The rear driveshaft popping out is a hell of a thing, as long as that doesn't imply serious damage I say cut the front half off and tube it out. Hell rehang the fenders and grill if you want to, just build a tube frame! Like that one BADASS cherokee over on pirate that has peices of 1.75" top over bottom for the frame rails
Man, that is horrible to hear. Sorry it happened but glad you're okay.
