I was looking at using a B&M 5ft shifter cable and brackets for a 700R4 but I think I can make the shifter cable that I got from the Silverado work. It's almost twice as long as necessary because the Silverado's shifter is column mounted so I'm just going to make it do two loops over the top of the transmission like a cork screw before it goes into the cab. The eyelet on the end is the same style as the Jeep's original cable. I haven't figured out the gating yet. There is a piece of metal sort of like a key in the shifter that defines the position for each gear, I think it would be easy enough to make a different one with the proper gating for the 4L60E.
Alternatively you could buy a floor mounted shifter out of some other GM vehicle that also has a 4L60E that will already have the proper gating, it just won't look stock.
My engine is drive by wire so I'm already set, I have already mounted the electronic throttle.
How about a F-body shifter. I've seen some guys use that for xj ls swaps. Forgot this was a wj swap not a zj. I'll be paying extra close attention now!
Glad I could help. Besides the sooner you guys get done with yours the sooner I can steal all your ideas and do mine LOL.
That's what I have for my YJ. It would look right at home in a ZJ/ WJ, but I haven't looked at it enough to think about incorporating it into the Jeep console. I'm sure it could be done without much work, though. I got mine on ebay with the complete with the knob and cable for about $20.
6.0 in a WJ with a stick... interesting...

Do you mean pirate the drivetrain from the Buick? Im pretty sure if I take it apart again my wife will set it ablaze and roll it down the street.
Does anyone know if the FWD GM cars would have the same shift setup as the RWD? I've looked at a few shifters and a Cavalier, Sunfire, Malibu all seem to be packaged pretty small and I think could be adapted easily.
Ha, I hope you never take that thing apart, especially not to part out. 6.0/ NV4500/ 241HD (to keep costs down vs. an atlas) or something along those lines would be a kickass drivetrain in a ZJ/ WJ. I think a NV3500 would have serious issues with a 6.0, but you could make it live with a 5.3.
I don't know about FWD cars transmissions/ shifters as I've never messed with them, but F-body shifters are popular because they are cheap as dirt and bolt right to a 700r4/ 4L60e without any modification. You can cut most of the steel base off if you want or need to to give it a really small footprint.
After looking on ebay, they are different. Search ebay/ google for "camaro shifter" or "firebird shifter" and you'll see what I mean.

Ha yea for now I gotta get the suspension the way I want it. Plus I have some cool metal surgeries coming up soon. I gotta say Im pretty happy with the 4.7 (esp mated to the 545rfe which is one of my favorite slushboxes) for now but when it dies an ls will def be filling its space. I've built some pretty stout 5.3's on a real small budget so that is prolly what will go in. Oh and a 242hd for the case. I gotta say I've been spoiled by the awd 247 case and dont want to go without an awd range ever again in the monsoon state.
ed: threadjack over Dave LOL
Just a quick update, got the wiring all done on the engine harness and read to accept power. Started making the mounts last night. With any luck I'll have the engine in there tonight.
After that I have to figure out what to do with the shifter, shifter cable, transmission linkage, t-case linkage, throttle cable, etc.

I want to hear it running tonight! It's only a little bit of work lol.
I'm at the complete opposite of the project-spectrum than you are...I'm plannin on pulling my engine today heh =/
/\ pics or it didnt happen
Do you guys know if anyone makes a custom WJ hood? Like ram air, or cowl? I think I'm going to be needing a little more space under there. May have to mod my hood if no one makes one.
I think the WJ has a nice shape for a cowl induction hood. I don't have the sheetmetal experience but I always thought it would beawesome to take the center section of a WJ hood and peel it up a little to create a cowl induction...
I don't have much sheetmetal experience either but it's looking like I might have a bit in the end lol
I was gonna redo my air intake eventually to come right off the tb since I go through alot of water and stuff. I was planning on using either the 99-04 mudstank scoop or the 03-08 Dodge ram scoop. Both are relatively inexpensive and have studs built onto them for mounting. So all you would need to do is mark and drill basically. The ram one is pretty large too. HTH
I don't know who's jeep this is or where the hood comes from, but I think the cowl looks . The WJ's have the curved hood to make it look good.
That WJ looks SWEET!!! But is that just a stick on hood scoop?
I need to make room in the front so not sure what to do with it yet. One thing at a time lol
Damn! I like that thing. Wasnt sure how a scoop would look on a wj but its tits.
That was RJ's Jeep. I'm pretty sure it was a stick on.
Made some mounts
Bolted it all in
The hood actually fits fine!
Should be running this weekend as long as my transfer case parts come
Shizzle son! Youre gettin that done. What are you doing to integrate that into factory systems like gauges ac etc, anything?
I'm doing the same as downtowncb for the gauges, keeping the stock jeep computer for them.
Oh ok. Alot of guys just use the GM cluster in the swap candidate. (sp?)
