i set the wheels on the hubs last week and they are well protected..stock. however if i needed to run spacers it would not be so nice. i can also run single rear wheel hubs which i think spaces it out to 67" but thats quite a bit though and still leaves the rotors wide open
if i have to i just may use that axle. ill cut/grind down the cast and if we have to weld to it, we've got a tig welder for a reason
messed around with some of the things we have in stock at the shop. its very similar to the factory setup. really quite simple actually. I'd almost consider reproducing if there was enough interest. note i didnt weld it up because i dont know if its what i plan on using, just an idea for now. i made the spring plate out of 1/8 material. might be a bit thin? the rest is some tabs we make and a generic leafspring pad. ill put in the stock isolator on in the midst of the swap
also learned that my axle is a wide track today. so ill be cool in the front spacers in the rear most likely though
Man I've never bene axle to find out exactly what axle I picked up in the junkyard. I picked it up from a fullsized 1981 cherokee and it measured out to 64.5" wide. Things i've read claim that it should be a wide track, but it's different than yours. I have more drivers side axle tube but it looks like you *MIGHT* have a longer long side...can't tell
That bracket is pretty sick lookin though, I would go with 1/4" plate for the spring pad though personally
I agree. The pad should be thicker. I like the simplicity of the design nice work.
AP I just passed on one of those axles on my local CL. Just not ready yet. Looked like yours and the guy said it was from an 80's fullsize cherokee. HTH
that is what i figured on the width as well. the long side seems considerably longer on mine. that design was just a brief idea however i need to raise my spring up a significant ways higher than the perch sits. back to the drawing board
Notch a piece of 3x6 instead of using the leaf mount. Voila fixed. Again I like the design.
new schedule - tires, gears, ball joints, front carrier, and now a detroit locker for the rear come next week some time.
yesterday i went and got my warn hubs warrantied. pretty much got those fo free
I dont have any work to do on it this weekend as our plasma cam is still down. - waiting to cut out truss's and rear backing plate bracket..most likely will come next weekend
very slow progress as of late. im at a point now where i may actually have to turn back. funds have become limited and time even more limited. the possibility of my project getting finished is lookin grim. however ill keep building until my last dollar.
minor progress..
sorry for the blurry pics i didnt realize they were bad until i pulled it up on the computer
rear truss
2 pieces of 1/4 inch plate
Adam is a mad man at welding, im jealous
im also still second guessing the width of my 44..
Lookin good. Hang in there BTW it will get better.
thanks, ive got my fingers crossed
well its official. the economy has wiped out another innocent soul. project eye for an eye has been suspended for what i imagine to be a long time. maybe i got in too far over my head? maybe i relied on the help of others too much? or maybe one of the million short comings i have experienced within the past few months have led to this. its hard to point a finger at just one issue, but as of late the world has pretty much come down on me. its time to settle and reconfigure what im going to be doing with my life. ill hold on to the parts ive acquired until my very last penny is spent..and then those will be sold off.
be careful out there, the world is unforgiving. ill tune in on occasion and be around to check out some of the builds. good luck to all
Sorry to hear. You are still keeping the wj right? You can always upgrade it more later. Its a pretty sweet rig to start with.
although the lift process has come to a hault i scored some LEDs and made a new set of taillight housings. i still need to make a top and bottom plate to box it in as well as weld and grind smooth the seams. but its the general idea that im pretty stoked for. i personally havent seen anything like it on a dub. it'll look much better all said and done. and at one point in time i will tie it into my bumper. 60 LED maxxima oval lights and some kragen $25 "fog lights" both lights are bright as hell and i know people will hate to follow me especially the pesky tailgaters when i get the switch put in. love it. they look good at night too. the picture i took isnt even worth posting
Looks good Bob, the black on black looks pretty stealth.
I like the look of those, pretty cool man. Keep on chuggin, you'll get your axles and lift stuff lined up sooner or later
thanks guys!
Maybe you can make a bunch and sell em to fund your axle swap?
that could work, huh? id have to put together some numbers on that one
You might want to add a small side marker light to keep everything legal.
Hang in there man and hang on to your parts.
You'd probably have to tweak your design a bit to be more asthetically pleasing though imo. WJers are a tough crowd. Esp if you try and sell em on ju or something lol.
i was thinking the same thing. i'm sure that wont be a biggy
and ya, like i said they arent done yet. some top and bottom plating, filling the seams and maybe even trying to roll it a little to match contours. the only thing im not pleased with is that there is really no way to mount them so they are sturdy. ive just got some 1/4" grade 8 hardware holding it to the stock location. which is why they will get tied into my bumper whenever that happens
I hope that didnt come across wrong. I remembered you sayin they werent done. My point was make sure all the extra work they need to be "finished" doesnt price you out of the market. Know what I mean?
