    todays progress

cleaned up both sets of hubs and painted. bolted the hubs to the excursion discs and it fits quite nicely, however there is a small air gap due to the curves in the casting created by the holes for the lug studs. shouldnt effect the ebrake too much? its small enough that it will keep even most small rocks out..

began cleaning up the 14b. big ugly drums are gone(those things are great boat anchors) cut the shock brackets off. waiting to get the plasma cutter operational to cut the leaf perches and old backing plate bracket. and started to wirewheel the housing

Had a bit of time at the end of the day today to get some work in. I tell ya what, the perches and caliper supports are a bitch to cut and grind off.

I have some concerns though. i know the wms on a wj is 63.5 and my 14b is 62.5 and my waggy 44 i assume is only 60.5 unless the 8 lug hubs space it more? i havent been able to completely set up the front end yet so i cant check. my wheels are 17x8 soft eights with 3.75 BS. I imagine ill have to get spacers for the front and possibly the rear too. thoughts?

Second ordeal. what is the spring perch width in the rear? i'm thinking ill have to inboard my springs to clear the rotor/caliper. once again, thoughts?

Damn man that kinda sucks about the widths. I would seriously consider another front housing before commiting to this one if I were you (ford HP recommended, 66" wide IIRC?). I'm 64.5" wide in the front (1981 fullsize cherokee)and 65.5" or whatever 9" are in the back, and I would not want to be any narrower then that.

I'm running 15x8 3.75BS so our wheel measurements are the same. I don't have near the turning radius of stock YET because my high steer arms aren't set up properly and the tire still gets way inside the wheel wells near the frame rails at lock. Once I fix the steering for the added degrees of turn I might actually have to worry about it.

Also, I ran 1.5" wheel spacers on this axle with 4" BS 7" wide rims and all I can say is scrub radius SUCKS. I now consider front wheel spacers a bandaid in all situations, it throws off the scrub radius so bad it's a bitch to turn unless your rolling. The tire literally drags instead of pivots.

*EDIT* Heres a pic of my truck with the 64.5" axle, 15x8 3.75" BS rims and 36" Iroks

Damn that sucks about the widths. I agree with AP on the front axle. It would suck to spend all that time and money on an axle that you wont be happy with in the end.

Damn agitated I never thought about that with the spacers but it makes sense.

Yeah I was running 1.5" wheel spacers with 4" BS wheels so the wheel had a simulated 2.5" backspacing, no fun!

My guess is your rear rotors will still be pretty save. You'll have to find out on assembly though.

The cast sucks, damn. Hard to get the bets of all worlds eh? The radius arms are cheap to build if you wanna run the cast haha!

i was also just informed that my axle may actually be a wide track? i guess ill have to bolt it all together to really find out. also the 8 lug outers are supposed to add 1 1/2 to 2 inch gain. however that is pretty much like throwin spacers in anyways as the scrub radius is still based off the pivot point (the C's)

ive got my self secong guessing everything now...damnit

Measure from the top of one balljoint across to the other. I'll tell ya how close it is to mine just for reference!

And don't get me wrong about wheel spacers. They were definately bearable, but NOT ideal and I wouldn't run them again if I had any way to avoid them.
