Pam and I went to Moab for the holiday weekend. Didn't do any real wheeling but checked out some scenery.
Baby Lions Back
Little bit of ice/water on the backside
We tried starting out on Fins, but being by ourselves and not aired down or anything it wasn't going too well, but we did see these guys off in the distance
So we decided to drive out Sand Flats Rd with the intentions of going up through Castle Valley
The area definitely looked a lot different with snow
The road to Castle Valley was closed after this overlook though, so we turned around and went back to Moab via a more southern route
Sunday we wanted to check out the Needles Overlook as well as the Anticline Overlook.
We stopped first at Jail House Rock
Cool mix of terrain looking toward the La Sals
Needles Overlook
Minor Overlook
Anticline Overlook looking south down Kane Creek
Cliff Houses on the way back to 191
The road was a little muddy with some snow here and there, but not too bad
Our next stop was Looking Glass Arch
It was a good trip and was nice to get to see some new stuff in Moab. The weather wasn't too bad Saturday. Low 40's. Sunday was a bit chillier and the wind had kicked up a bit. It looked like there were a few wheelers in town, but overall the place was dead. Southern facing areas were pretty dry, but the north faces were mostly snow covered making wheeling a bit tricky.
that's too cool, I hope I make it out there someday soon.
Nice. Great pictures. I've meant to make the trip to the Anticline overlook for years...I'm a little jealous!
My kids were down there the same weekend. They were driving a red Comanche, White XJ, a red TJ and a grey XJ. They had a good time but ran into too much snow and ice on many of the trails. The waterfall on Poison Spider was too icy to get up. Metal masher wasn't too bad up to rock chucker but after that was too snowy. Gold Bar Rim was fine up to the big ledge which my son in law went down and back up but he slid down it and could have gotten in trouble. Fins and things was also a problem on the steep fins but I don't think they aired down. I was at home working on my Commando project so that I can hopefully finish it for the spring trips.
Brrrr.....looks cold there with snow on the ground. Moab isn't supposed to be cold!
