Glad somebody's having some similar problems to what I've had with my claytons kit. My upper, drivers side link was hitting the drive shaft/yoke during flex also. I moved it once but ended up just removing it. I now only have a passenger side upper and it seem to work ok but there is a good bit of axle hop. You can move the UCA mount on the lower control arm forewards some but according to clayton, the angle shouldn't be more than 45 degrees once you move it.
I had a poly bushing in my UCA mount on the axle end for a little while but it got destroyed and cut up after less than one season. It's since been replaced with the curry little jj and it works fine. I had some trouble getting it to STAY IN the mount but it's in there now. Your setup should work great now.
had a good showing of maybe 10 rigs. mostly wranglers, me and then this f350 with no bed and 42s lol. i lost my camera as soon as i got there and then found it as soon as i got back!! so no pics or vids from me. there were however quite a bit of others taking pics and my buddy brought a cam so ill see what i can scrounge up of blue.
all in all, she did really well! showed the wranglers a thing or two about krawlin. was the only one to make it up the one obstacle that everyone was scared of and no one even wanted to spot me up. i kept hearing roll, flop, roll so that was assuring! walked up without a prob and a wrangler on 37s and coilovers couldnt do it. Grands FTW!!
we camped over-night so i had wood and all of our camping gear loaded into the jeep along with my full spare. i had like 1.5" if up travel so the 45 min drive there was slow and steady lol.
damage report:
-broke the bottom of tail light on a rock.
-other minor scrapes and scratches.
-TC keeps popping out of 4wd... need to figure that out
-lost front springs a few times (limiting straps are coming.)
-broke off an ear of the steering box. noticed it after the 45 min drive home lol.
so she is going to be parked for a little while untill i get a new box, clean it, rebuild it, tap it and run hydro assist. im thinking going durango box. i know it still only has 3 mounting holes but im also going to make a brace and plate the frame to prevent this from happening again.
bout blew a bead here. cant turn it cos its not my picture album
let me tell you it was a BITCH steering with that front end welded!! i was doing 80 point turns all weekend. hahaha
im really wondering why my steering box broke
things to do....
-acquire durango box
-drill and tap it for hydro assist
-get ram, lines, fittings ect for assist (would love to go full hydro but money doesnt allow it right now)
-buy or make(havent decided yet) a brace for steering box
-pick up JJs for the uppers and install
-limit strap the front end and bump the back.
-give the 5.2 some love with oil, cap, plugs, wires, ect
also what length throw should i get on the ram? my axle is 66" WMS-WMS. with the reading ive been doing, im thinkin 8" but i dont want to be breaking knuckles... i know im going 1.5" bore so i can keep some wheel speed.
Put a line on the tie rod and measure how far it moves from lock to lock to figure out what size ram you need. WMS typically has nothing to do with it.
I havent personally measured, but I too have been told 8" stroke is needed. Now you have me thinking about a steering brace for mine before the 1st trip, I'm also running welded in the front.
Rick
8" for a full size works well.
Looks like a great weekend. I need to make a trip out west once I get a tow rig.
Nice rig. love the fab work.
I think I've talked to you before on jeepforum... Do you work at Nellis AFB? or am I thinking of a different bigblue?
thanks man, yea thats me...
video of some footage from last time outat logandale. 03:50 is me doing an obstacle no one else would try and most people were skeptical to even spot me. lol
