70's f250. Its a drum brake open knuckle 44. Craziest thing I've ever seen. I found a thread about it on pirate. Apparently its worth is weight in horse poo.

A lot of 60s Fords and Chevys (no clue on Dodges) used a "ram assist" type power steering. The steering box was more or less a manual box with a kind of built-in orbital valve. The systems are weak, prone to leaks (mostly due to age at this point), and suck all around.

I don't think I've seen a F250 open knuckle 44 with drums on it. Hope it doesn't have oddball shaft lenghts. What's your plan for it?

edit: Because it's not a F250 axle - it has radius arms, so it's a F150 axle. Hope you got it for free.

I even meant 150. Damn auto correct on my phone. The got a set of flattop Chevy knuckles with btf histeer arms that are going on it. Got that axle, half the frame(scrap), a 6" skyjacker lift, everything to convert to disc, and a chrysler 9.25 for 100. I think I did fair.

Sounds like a good deal. If you hadn't get the disc conversion parts, you would have had more in it than it would cost to find a newer axle.

I would truss the front. Since it's an earlier axle, you can cut the factory wedges and panhard mount off unless you wanted to run radius arms anyway.

I wouldn't throw much money at the 9.25. It should be an decent match for the 44, though.

I'm going to radius arm the front. I'm trying to decide if I want to gear both now or just want to gear one. Common sense says gear both. My wallet says gear one. Haha.
