Newb here. I saw the info about the grand slam and I had a few questions.

Are these events open to everyone or is it not worth it if you don't have big tires and a bunch of hardcore gear? I ask because my truck is a driver and still rather stock and I doubt I will be on anything larger than 31's anytime in the near future.

Also wondering how far ahead planning of dates and location are announced? Because of my job I try to plan vacation time as far ahead as possible.

    Thanks
    Tim

I live in the neighborhood behind Ewing High School. Where abouts are you from?

GSE piggy backs on the "Spring Fling" event at Big Dogs, so you can bring all of your non-grand cherokee friends, too and still wheel with them.

GSE is definitely worth it regardless of your setup. IIRC O'Tool was only on 30s last year and he had a great time. There are a lot of trails there for folks of all levels. There are showers, bathrooms, huge campsites, and a store onsite.

Some of the extreme trails like Bunny and Pennsyltuckian are viewable from the main access road, so you can even watch the extreme guys get stupid on them.

The Big Dogs events are big deal to us up in Buffalo. Everyone that's gone from our group (ranging from folks on 30s to 47s) has had a blast. I guess that says something since it's a 7 hour drive for us.

    It's definitely worth it.

I've wheeled at GSE in my ZJ from the days it was on 31's, through 42's - there's something for everyone there, it's one of my favorite events.

EDIT: Ignore this. My dates listed were incorrect. I edited this so no one shows up on the wrong date.

I will say maybe for now but most likely won't be able to attend. Taking the trip to France to see the 24 Hours of LeMans in person for the first time the following weekend. Doubt I could pull off both trips so close together.

Oh sonofabitch -- I was hoping GSE would be on its "normal" weekend because my good friend is getting married on June 12.

I'll aim for Icebreakers, GSSE, and Main Jambo this year...

It used to always be the first weekend, back when i had reserves on the first weekend, then a few years ago, about 5 they moved it to the second, and my reserve duty moved to the second weekend.

But NO WORRIES, I am RETIRED now

Congrats Bruce! I wasn't expecting to hear that from you...but great to hear! Now you've got the time to drop the new 5.9 off at my place for a little love!

wtf is up with them making main jambo earlier and earlier every year. Damn this messes me up because I was thinking about heading out west around the begining of sept before my work picked up.
93ish zj, d60s, 38.5 maxxis, and a bunch of other expensive parts to make them work.

Yep, doing the market surveys and trying to make a decision on the lift. Leaning towards the RE or Tomken 4.5"

Already tired of being the little guy, smaller than the "Up-Countrys" running around.

No Bruce, I'm still the little guy....kinda interesting how a WJ at 5.5" nets about the same clearance as a ZJ on 3.5"

I'll do my best to be there...one things for sure, I gotta get my junk offroad more in 2010 - I think my jeep has been offroad only 3 times in the last 2 1/2 years

Has there ever been any consideration of doing a winter gathering? Maybe hitting someplace that we can play in some snow?

    Just a thought.

    Fixed it for you!

Probably my best wheeling trip ever happened in 2 degree weather with ice-covered rocks. Paragon

That said, the whole towing thing in the winter is hit or miss for me, so I dunno if I'd be able to get anywhere far.
