Ok, so recently Levi (grandmaster) and I had a discussion about how much a stock ZJ weighs. I was under the impression that it couldn't be more than 4700lbs since I weighed my ZJ in at 5340lbs just this summer. Well I went into my shed today to look at the door sticker and this is what I found...
Some specs for this. 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Orvis, 5.2L V8, NP249, tow package.
Here is the picture of my ZJ on the scale at a Port of Entry (5340lbs)
That picture is taken with 1/2 tank of gas, ~200lbs of tools, 60" Hi-Lift and my 37x12.50x15 spare MTR on a steal wheel in the back. Also in this picture it has D44 front, Ford 9" rear, 37x12.50x17 Trxus MT's, 17x9 aluminum beadlocks, long arm kit, NP231, front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, full interior cage.
So my question here is, how is it possible that my ZJ stock weighed in at 5500lbs and after putting in the preceding list I have managed to "shave" 160lbs? Sure I took the doors off, but that couldn't make up for everything else plus some. That sticker MUST be wrong....right?

The GVWR is the maximum allowable total weight of a road vehicle or trailer when loaded.
I believe the Curb Weight is what you are looking for in regards to a stock ZJ, which is the actual weight of the vehicle with a full tank of gas and no cargo. I think it's around 4000 for a ZJ.
EDIT: David beat me to it!
HA well SOB....I didn't see that listed on the sticker. I'll go back out and look tomorrow. I thought something was odd there. 5500lbs is a shit-ton.

According to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Grand_Cherokee the curb weight is 1450kg. Any Canadians wanna convert that for us?
According to Google Calculator
1450 kilograms = 3 196.7028 pounds
According to Google:
1450 kilograms = 3 196.7028 pounds
I'm calling a Wikipedia fail on that number...
EDIT: DAMMIT! Too late AGAIN!
I vote that this thread gets deleted...
Copied and pasted from else where on the interweb... seems right but could be open to interpretation...
Jeep ZJ Produced from 1993-1995
Length: 176.7 in. Width: 69.2 in.
Height: 64.9 in. Wheel Base: 105.9 in.
Ground Clearance: 8.2 in. Curb Weight: 3574 lbs
1996-98 ZJ Dimension changes - (If not shown, it did not change)
Length: 177.2 in. Width: 69.3 in.
Height: 64.9 in. Wheel Base: 105.9 in.
Ground Clearance: 7.7 in. Curb Weight: 3926 lbs.
I'm assuming that is the 4.0? I wonder how much difference there is between the two?
Oh and this thread is a fail on me...damn.
It's just as much my fault as it is Tylers. I was telling him about what it said and he didn't believe me so I sent a picture to him. Sure enough I was right....(not really) but he still agreed with me haha. I find it unusaul that they wouldn't put a vehicle weight on the "sticker" inside of the door...yet they list front and rear weight that still doesn't add up. Anyways thanks for clearing this up everyone, continue with the deletion of the thread
GVWR means GROSS vehicle wei..........dammit.
yeah, the GVWR on my F250 is like 8800#, i'd guess i'm tipping around 6k empty though.
as far as ground clearance changes, did they change the oem tire size?
where does 4.0 vs v8 weight stand? i would almost expect the v8 to be the same or even less, probably a lot less iron under the hood.

DAMN so my WJ only weighed 3600lbs stock? 0.o I thought it was way higher than that
3669 lb (1664 kg)
i know some of the v8's came stock with 245/75's instead of the 225's could account for the ground clearance.
We should stop bumping this thread so it just goes away
k haha
Just looking for the weight of a stock ZJ, so I wanted to bump this thread just for Tyler
Damn you.
LOL
Copied and saved this entire thread so just incase you manage to persuade Dave to delete it I will always have this to remember you by...LOL
