    Stolen from my local forum:

The Forest Service released their final decision on the Tellico OHV area today (http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/nepa/tusquitee/tellico.htm). They went with their preferred alternative, permanent closure!

The area allocating $2.3 to implement their final decision program. Trail 1 will be paved with asphalt from the paved portion in TN to the paved portion in NC. Trails 4, 5 & 6 will be graded, prepared and maintained as Forest Service Roads to provide hunting and fishing access. This will be 13 miles of road for park access. All other trails will be closed permanently!

I just read the text of the final decision. It states that the trails were closed because of erosion problems and sediment affecting water quality in nearby rivers and streams.

Here's a newsflash: rivers have been carrying sediment downstream for hundreds of millions of years. Long before OHV's ever existed. The Appalacians used to be nearly as high as the Himalayas are today. Long before humans even existed these mountains were washed away one grain at a time. The logic behind this closure is just plain ridiculous.

Radicals are being appointed to leadership positions within the federal bureaucracy and our freedoms are being eroded at an ever increasing rate. We will have a chance to correct the mistake in 3 more years. Lets hope its not too late. Live and let live!

sounds mean but everyone should start taking your familys up their and find the trout fishermen and just cut the kids loose in the river next to them.

So since OHVs supposedly displaced so much soil, shouldn't there be a noticeable improvement in the water conditions since the trails have been closed for about 8 months?

If conditions haven't improved, then we have a strong case on our hands, IMO.

I read about this on NC4x4. It's very disappointing because there isn't ANYWHERE like Tellico. Harlan isn't bad but it's considerably farther and not as diverse.

What do you mean by diverse? How recently have you been to harlan?

My favorite thing about tellico was camping off of a tucked away FS road, on top of the mountain that straddles the TN/NC state line. On a late afternoon in the summer, you could hit upper 2 directly from camp and take it into the trail system, then shoot down trail 1 and use lower 2 to loop back up to camp. Just in time to grab cold beers and watch the sun set over the mountains as the fire got going.

When liberty sleeps tyranny will rule. If it's fun it must be stopped. Have you ever seen a "happy", "joyful" socialist??? Only smile when they can say NO or are taking your money.

Elect liberty and this can all be corrected with a pen.

I live so close, now I have nothing... I hunt but that is bs. It was a great place for it and deer population wasn't that great. I guess they went with what they saw as more revenue. I think I may cry.

Tellico appeal from sfwda has been released. Whether it has an effect or not, it's an interesting read, especially if you've been keeping up with the Tellico situation for the last couple years.

Supposedly this is the last thing we can do before we must take legal action.
