Getting a little closer to actualy building something. One more day of chassis clean up and I will be ready to start fabbing up the lower parts of the front frame rails, plate, and get the motor in...
Doesn't look like much different from previous pics, but I have done a shit load of clean up since... Big props to my buddy John. Brought over his grinder and went to town. His help is much appreciated.
For all the Coors Light fans on this site. Been staying hydrated too... Taste buds still working properly.
You must have opened that fridge for your buddy John, in my group of friends grinding is bitch work and although we all help each other with everything, no one offers to help grind because its so annoying haha.
Is that medusa under your rig?
looks good man... the cleanup phase is the worst part, after that it gets a lot more rewarding.
Thanks guys. You hit it right on. Clean up sucks, so I made sure I had plenty of cold beers for my buddy. I probably have at least 25hrs of just cleanup so far.
What do you guys think about reversing this bar?
Excuse the crappy paint skills. You should get the idea though.
Roll the tube. You can notch it long to support the shock mount and die into the bumper / light bar thingy.
Getting a little closer. Front hoops ground smooth and missing front bar repaired. Oh, and more grinding..... Finally a little progress that I can see.
Making my own bars is an option. We will see what happens. A buddy of mine has all of the equipment. It is just a matter of getting up to his shop to use it.
progress. nice.
rework sucks, i know. start to get pretty damn tired of the sound of a grinder.
keep at it.
And then.....
More progress. Decided to just keep the rear... I am finally ready to start building.
Simple. I like it.
Dang, nice progress. I can't imagine the time it must have taken... No comes the fun part right?
Exactly.
Friend of mine just got a roll bender, so I am set for the radius bends I need to make. Planning on repairing the crossmember today. .
Tommy
Still planning on adding some ZJ touches to this?
That is the plan. I have my entire ZJ front clip, as well as my lift gate.
Still plugging away at this thing. Some progress on the main crossmembers. I think it looks better.
I still have some more welding to do on the front, and one more place to plate. But some progress anyways. I really need to get the hoist over so I can see where this motor is going to be.
The existing material on the side of the car was way to thin. Added these this weekend.
I also made some gussets for the CA mounts. My daughters were hanging with me in the garage. Wrote their initials on on a piece of plate. Traced their hand writing with my plasma. Kind of neat for them.
I can see from here that your welds suck and you should stop fabbing now, and give the chassis to me
looks good. keep up the steady progress....
LOL. Thank you!
I was digging around the reminant section at a local yard and found some brand new 3/16 plate for cheap. I am tired of looking at all of the bars on the interior of the boat sides. I am going to plate it all. Should look a ton cleaner. I cut all the pieces yesterday. Just working to get them fitted and tac'd in place. Looks even cleaner.
Motor fits between the rails. A few more sawzall blades and it will fit eaxctly where I need it to be. Motor will be going up about 4 inches, and back about 5 inches. I will also be replacing the oil pan with one that is about 3 inches shorter. Tight, but I think I can make it work.
Tommy
Not 100% what pan I am going to use yet. There are a few options. And not sure accumulator I am going to run. I need see if everything is going to fit. This is a very small car.
I had to remove the upper hoops. Little bummed but had to.
Motor is now sitting about where it needs to be. Front axle may need to go forward and inch.
Stock 6.0 oil pan.
ah bummer. looked like to spent a good chunk of time cleaning those up too.
