Went out with my rig, pat's rig, and fish1200's rig today to crozet since we can't do bigdogs. Had a blast testing out the zj again. The ltbs were sweet, along with the beadlocks. Some of the obstacles were wet so it was hard to hit some shit. The very last pics/videos is where me and pat got ballsy. Before you comment on what we should have done/shouldn't have done, done diffrently, braked, gassed it; we know, we talked about it after it happend. It was our first time getting in that situation.

You can see how well the beadlocks held air at low pressure.

Here is where it got trickey. Chris(owner of Crozet) came down to chat and then talked pat into doing the rock to the left of bodyshop. Pat did it first, nose dived like a bitch and then gassed it and drove out of it. Both of us almost went over. Then I had to do it of course, peer pressure always wins.

    Video of me- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHMm87E817Q
(dont mind water mark, and make sure you watch it in HD)

    Video of pat- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZhod4kmeLU
(might not be 100% quality right now) I realize I am grabbing the cage while riding passenger, it is dumb, do not do it, I am an idiot.

Landing that hard, snapped my sector shaft on my steering. awesome.

attempted to use the winch to turn the knuckles.. fail

    rescue mobile

    Great day!!
I have a SHIT ton of pics.. WAY too many. I just threw this together for tonight. we shall see what other ones come up.
had to ratchet it and push the tires to get it on the trailer

Considering the relatively little amount of seat time you guys have, I think you both handled it pretty well!

Nice! About time. Congrats on running that as I know you had more seat up in you ass than you ever thought was possible. That is a big ass obstical. Pat looked like he was pretty clear of going over w/out even gassing it but you needed a little skinny pedal for sure. Great job. Did ya'll leave Pats rig up there and are going back for it?

I've got a stock box here if you want another one to tap. If you're looking for a new PSC box...let me know! Again, nice to see you wheel it like its built to be!

We had two trucks and two trailers. So we made it home ok. Fish1200 had some ghetto tranny problems, he had to take it slow home. I might take you up on that box, who knows! I will keep in touch.

Man that brought back flash backs of how I destroyed my first jeep. i'm glad you kept the body in one piece.

If you need some one to tap your new box let me know. I can't remeber if you sent it out or did it yourself.
93ish zj, d60s, 38.5 maxxis, and a bunch of other expensive parts to make them work.

Very nice. Luckily, I haven't needed to throttle out of an endo situation yet.

Would a rear suckdown winch have helped reduce the need to throttle out of a near endo like that?

Just trying to understand when a suckdown winch helps or doesn't do much at all.

At the angle of the obstacle, I think it might had HELPED, but I dont think it would had stopped the back from coming up. Proper release of brake, and proper timing of throttle would have stopped it more than anything.

I drive my rig on the street with full hydro. Wouldn't a drag link end failure net the same result as a blown hydro hose?

If you watch the space between the rear fender and the tire, the distance doesn't change much. Which leads me to believe it was more a factor of weight placement (higher COG) than an unloading issue. so a suckdown might help some, but I wouldn't expect a huge improvement in that situation.

In VA they have yearly safety inspections. Full hydro won't pass - you have to have a mechanical connection for the steering.

    Nice job guys!

I guess a drag link failure would have similiar results- guess it comes down to whether or not you trust a well built drag link or a couple of hoses under pressure. Oregon has no safety inspections- but can't say I've seen a full hydro setup on the street up here yet. If I'm doing 60+ MPH, I think a mechanical link makes me feel a little safer- but I guess my brakes are hydraulic- so to each their own as long as it's legal and put together properly.

Yeah I noticed that, but I know how hard it is to trust yourself to let go of the brake in that situation. Pat's brakes didn't lock up, but he still needed to throttle out because the tires weren't spinning fast enough when they hit the bottom. It's just a tough obstacle that looks like it's tough to "do it right" the first time. But looks like you handled it well.

Yeah it definitely comes down to comfort level. If you avoid maintenance like the plague, then maybe mechanical would be a better way to go. But I find myself constantly inspecting my rig for stuff like frayed steering lines. If one did fail, the fluid reserve in my cooler and reservoir would provide at least intermittent steering control to limp it out of harm's way. To me that is the biggest difference between a failed line and a separated drag link end.
