Justin (Colorado XJ) and I decided to head down to Metberry this afternoon. Was a little windy on the way out there, but pretty nice once we got down there.
Cool pics,
Is that in CO or UT?
Colorado...
is it just like a wide open fire road?
It's not the most technical of trails, only really even need 4wd in one spot, but it is kinda ironic that you said fire road.
Metberry is part of 3 trails called "The Gulches." There's Hackett Gulch, Longwater Gulch, and Metberry Gulch. Up until the summer of 2002 all 3 trails were extremely popular. Hackett and Longwater were certainly more difficult than Metberry, and they were considered by some to be "hardcore" for then. In June of 2002 though, the area burned to a crisp in Colorado's worst wildfire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayman_Fire The Gulches were in one of the hardest hit areas. The entire area has been prone to flash fludding, landslides, etc, because the fire burned all the trees and grass that help hold the ground together. Because of that, The Gulches were closed. Last summer Metberry opened, Longwater and Hackett are still closed, but there is hope that they may re-open with the next couple years. So while it certainly isn't a hardcore trail, there is definitely some sentimental value with the area.
cool pictures for sure, in the last one kinda looks like a deer or something on the roof of the xj, lol
