my axle shafts in my waggy 44 front are able to move in and out about an inch or 2 where the ujoints are on both sides when you move them by hand. i can hear the shafts moving all around when im driving as well(249 with the lockouts unlocked)...which is quite annoying and i can even feel it when i let of the gas how they moving around.
i've been told that if the hubs aren't put together right this could be the result, and that my hubs may be worn out that could cause this.
just looking for some second, third, 4th opinions...im a n00b at lockout hubs, can take pictures if needed of what i described.
thanks!
That's my first thought. Pull the lock out and take a look at the end of the shaft see if the lock ring is on there depending on the shaft it might have 2 groves for the snap ring. If it does have 2 you might want to try and push the axle out as far as u can and put the ring on the back notch.
Didn't I give you some spare hubs? During the last trail repair, I don't remember if we put the snap ring back in on the driver's side (the one that had the chromo stub fail) but I'm assuming you would have taken it apart since then to swap in the replacement yukon shaft anyways. Are you sure the clicking isn't partly the aussie?
the yukon stub is still in a cooler with the rest of all that stuff you gave me, but the aussie makes noise, but its when i let off the gas that it makes the banging noises mostly from the pass side. is there any diagrams of what the hub parts are online anywhere that would be helpful?

Those are YOUR hubs. Your exact pair... many years ago.
There are a number of parts inside the hub body but the hub itself is being pulled out in the pic below. Sorry no detailed drawings of its anatomy, but it's not too complex.
thats very helpful thanks cam.
another question...where do i get more of the hub screws, one fell out of the pass side turndial
and another question- the passenger side hub also squeeks at low speeds, just need to rebuild it as that link shows?
I'm pretty sure I gave you extra hub screws. Check your spares pile.
Take apart the passenger side hub ASAP and grease everything. When they start making noise, it usually means they are getting close to dry. You do not want to have a wheel bearing lock up.
And change that old weak waggy stub shaft out before it breaks and claims the superjoint and possibly other shaft. No sense in running it and keeping the chromoly in a box.
Would it be smart to just put my friends warn premiums in that he has left over from selling his waggy 44 build, and then rebuilding these for spares? What would the strength benefits from the warns? I don't have any time soon, especially before next uwharrie trip to rebuild these hubs. And ill get that stub in when I do the hubs with my friends help. I didn't realize that you put superjoints in it btw
Those hubs witnessed a lot of Warn 44 hubs breaking on other rigs around them. I never broke a Jeep hub, so either they are ready to go, or they're made from the remains of the cannon 30
Ha yeah you have superjoints. I guess I could have swapped those out and pawned them off to another buyer. just kidding. partly.
Hahahaha, I've heard that the warn hubs like to break, figured I'd ask though
swapped waggy outer with the yukon outer that i've been meaning to do since i got the axles
warn premiums
problem solved
BTW running the 249 with the hubs unlocked is a bad idea. REALLY hard on the viscous coupler....
Yeah its a 97 so its not as bad as a 93-95 but I have a 242 I'm planning to get in next couple weeks that I've had since Elliot parted his zj, from his zj
