Yesterday I tore into the 44 to replace balljoints and seals. Didnt have a socket big enough to take off the nut on the bottom balljoints so we quit. Quick question though. My highsteer arm on the passenger side is stuck, the lock washers are rusted to the arm and the arm isnt wanting to go anywhere. Any tricks for getting this shit off? Its all beat to hell too, looks like a the guy who owned it took a torch to the arm. The driver side one is beat to hell too and bent. Im just going to buy new arms from Ballistic.

    Awesome expensive balljoints

The main reason I went to Reid racing knuckles, was because I fucked up mine so bad trying to tear them apart... If you can swing them, upgrade while you have it apart, you won't regret it.

219 a peice, I could drop that much for the pair but $400 for knuckles is pushing it.

Just got back from Harlan at GSSE. Had a blast, never been there before and loved it. Friday was pretty fun, wheeled with a few different people. The grands were vastly outnumbered. We wheeled all day with Ryan and his wife saturday and then caught up with Matt and Slim. I only got pics from the first day, Casey has the rest on his camera.

Take a hammer and hit the arm down into the knuckle, see if you can pop the cone washers loose. If the cone washers are split washers, you can take a punch to the side of the part of the cone washer sticking out the top and try to tap it to get it loose

Ill try that out when I get around to working on it again. Been putting siding up all day and it blows.

Thanks Brooks, I didnt see a HT engraved anywhere but there covered in rust so who knows. Ill look at it better later.

Wow, awesome pic of me there. WTF am I doing with my pockets?

Good meeting you this weekend Ronnie... even if you were born in 1990. Hopefully by next grand slam you will have your build finished and your rig dialed in.

Damn... I barely knew what a d44 was then let alone had one under my rig haha.

Honestly though Cam im trying to have it all "done" (take that word lightly) for our Harlan trip in December. It will be ready to wheel and beat the piss out of next gsse for sure.

Just got back from a fun weekend of wheeling. The Jeep did great, no breaks on the trail.

BUT 5 minutes after I drop my rider off I break pretty good. It was my fault, was turning left at a green light and didnt even see a white minivan coming. Dont know how the fuck I didnt see it, ive never had anything like this happen. Havent even gotten a speeding ticket. They gave me a 4 point failure to yield. Im going to go to court still and see what happens. I dont know the deal, I think its totaled because the unibody is destroyed. Im going to strip it of all my removable accesorys tommorow.

Wow that sucks dude, sorry about the rig.

I got in a wreck in my ZJ a few years ago (nowhere near as bad as yours), but I know how it feels to fuck up a good rig. Hopefully something good will come out of it.

the damange doesn't look terribly bad.

I wonder how the rig would've faired with an ARB or similar front bumper.

That sucks! My buddy bought a trail beater XJ that had a similar collision. They strapped it to a tree and slammed it in reverse a couple times to straighten the unibody. Boy that thing was fun to wheel.

I dont have plans to pull it out and use it as a trail beater, with my current situation I need a wheeler/dd. Cant afford both. Today I pulled all my electrical crap off. CB, rock lights, amp and sub wires etc. Got the gas tank skid off and my trailer hitch. Im picking up a set of stock tires and wheels from a buddy to put on and either tommorow or wednesday the lifts coming off and stock stuffs going back on. Probably going to cut off the sliders too. I dont believe the stiffeners are coming off.

Im just BSing right now, havent even heard from insurance so im not sure whats up. Ive been cruising the interweb though and Im kind of stuck between what I want to do. I love my ZJ, even though it had the unibody. A part of me wants to get a 5.9 because I have always wanted a V8, and I love the way lifted ZJs look. But another part wants to move to a TJ. A frame is awesome and would be a lot easier to build. 5.9s are cheaper then TJs now too which is nice. Who knows...

Tj's are no fun, there's no room and the wheelbase sucks. My dad has one I drive it when my Jeep dies (such as all summer and even right now actually)

wrangler may have a ghery wheel base. but look at all the mods we do to ZJ's to wheel em.

you can do the same shit to a TJ and have a more capable rig. smaller body, real frame.....

Insurance said $5200 for it. Got everything off except the sliders and stiffeners. Not to bad.

96 Jeep Grand Cherokee on 1 Ton Axles

Haha probably not. Im so against buying something already built, but the way I look at is for example, Im looking at this tj with a currie HP9 and a D30 front ARB 4.56s etc. I could sell the 30 for some good cash, swap my 44 in and still have money left. Also looking at maybe trying to snag a cheap rubi. I could make bank selling the 44s out of it and have a 4:1 case too.
