Ok.. so im a total newb here, but this isn't my 1st party. I have owned 2 ZJ's before this WJ, and had a full tube crawler, that i just sold a few months ago. So its time to build my ultimate do all rig.
It will be my daily driver, my run to moab doing 80, my medium duty crawler to run the trails with, my desert pre-runner, minor fun in the dunes and woops, my do everything vehicle. (at least that is the plan anyways)
The factory specs:
2004 WJ limited with 70k on the ticker
loaded including Nav.
4.7 HO motor
Quadra Drive
Black Crystal Metallic
The Mods so far:
Washer bottle re-location
242 swap with d-shaft
Mods for the immediate future:
Clayton 6" long arm kit
35" BFG KM2's
Walker Evans True Beadlocks with OMF rings
Fox Bypass shocks
TNT Customs Hi-steer kit with relocated track bar, and flipped tie-rod
Kevins Sliderz
Custom front bumper with 8000k winch (designed and fabbed by me)
major fender trimming
Mods further in the coming months:
Truss/Skid plate for Rear Alum 44 axle
Rear aussie locker or ARB, 4.56 gears
Front axle either swapped out for a dana 44 or polish up the terd a little bit... (mind you, not gonna be a "hard core" crawler)
Truss for Dana 30 up front
aussie or ARB, 4.56 gears
Alloy axles with 30 splines
Rear bumper and tire carrier
i think thats about it for now.
Here are some pics..
Just installed the clayton cross member, and will be welding it in this weekend.... the coils, arms and track bar will be getting powdercoated a surprise color, that i am sure most of you will hate.

most people are sticking them down where the factory air box is, but im keeping my factory one in place, so i stuck mine up near the master cyl. I used all 3 mounts, and re-used my WJ pumps, and wire harness. I did have to soften the plastic with a torch and push it in so it woudn't rub on the brake lines sticking out the master cyl. You just gotta make sure its low enough to clear the lift strut. And i also made a little mount to re-mount the vacuum thing that hangs off the side of the fender well.
looks good.
your screen name looks familiar, are you on RF.net?
Got the crosmembers and mounts welded in today...and added a 40 series delta flow muffler and turn down... next step is paint!
i had to move the mounting plates out on the sliders to fit up properly, and trimmed the inner mounts to fit with the clayton cross members. just gotta drill new holes, and they will be ready for powdercoat....
got it all painted up this morning.
Finally got the parts back from coating.. here comes the lift:
I still need to finish cutting off the original control arm mounts, and get the driveshafts extended... then get shocks, but its moving along. it lifted the front 7 3/4" and the rear 7".
That green is pretty sweet.
When I saw the parts all laid out, I thought the green was gonna look , but on the rig it looks pretty sweet!
The silver brackets and green arms and spings look legit. I hope to see this thing out on the trail sometime.
I am loving that green, GOOD idea!
WOW! Thas all I got. WOW!
yeah.. most said i was crazy to do the green.. but i think it looks great. It will look even better with the black wheels, and the beadlock rings will be the same green.. and i coated the sliders green too. i am slightly worried that the sliders might be too much green, but i didn't want to install them until i get the control arm mounts cut off.
thanks for the compliments thus far.. so who knows if i can just lengthen the drive shafts, or do i need different types to not have vibes? I pushed the axles away from center of jeep to clear the tires without having to hack up the body serious amounts, so they are going to need something done for sure.
Not sure about dubs but I'm still running a stock front shaft on my xj and we have a shop that we bring a ram 2500 front drive shaft to and he cuts it to length for the rear might try to do that.
Got the OEM control arm mounts cut off, welded the seams, then painted:
Then got Kevin's Sliderz mounted up. I stopped by harbor freight and got a cheap 90 degree angle drill, and cut my drill bit down, so drilling the holes was a snap. I highly recommend doing that if you install them.
Now i am just waiting for my TNT Customs hi-steer kit, and track bar relocator to show up, so i can get my steering and track bar angles a lot flatter.
Looks good, I have a 2000 WJ that I will be lifting soon. i was wondering why you went with the 242 instead of the 231?
drive shafts- I would just get the tom woods set I love mine.
Looks damn good, nice work.
i liked the idea of the 4 full time mode, plus i knew for sure it was a direct bolt in swap.. didn't have to worry about input shafts etc. not sure about the 231 case.
Yeah. i got mine lengthend, but the rear still vibrates pretty good at about 50mph and up. Did you end up doing a SYE, or just a slip yoke style CV type? I really don't want to mess with a SYE, but if that is the best way to go, i might have to. I will be calling Tom today to see what he says.
Thanks.
