Oh yeah, I agree, I would have expected for something to break in Harlan, not at URE. I should have seen it coming when I was thinking "I hope this is still fun after Harlan" haha, little did I know
Finally broke down and got a proper tow rig.
Some specs:
V10
NV4500 manual 5 speed
4x4
D60 front
D80 rear
3.55s
looks good man but i just may have to steal those axles haha
proper? its a v10
Towed with the V10 twice now, and boy is it night and day from the Tahoe. Went to URE today. Here are some pics.
Looks like a good time. Glad to hear you're happy with the v10.
I'm digging the black hood, but I think you should go silver with the doors and fenders
Cool pics .On your tow rig, how was your fuel consumption? Regardless, I like it, nice score..
I need some opinions and/or advice (yes I am asking for it I know).
I currently run an ARB front bumper but I am thinking I need something with a little more approach angle. I just bought Cam's front bumper that has a winch mount and mounts to the ZJ in the uniframe rails in the front and is only the width of those holes.
My question is should I ditch the ARB for this bumper? If I do, I will cut the front metal bumper to the same width.
This leads me to my next question. I still need to keep my lights so it can be streetable so what has everyone done about protecting the underside of the lights from rocks? I just don't want to come crashing down on a rock and smash the underside of my light all to hell.
Thought? Opinions?
Buyer's remorse already?
In the long term, I think you'd be better off running mine. Of course I'm biased, but it's probably a little better suited to the abuse of southeastern wheeling, without being overly heavy.
With your front axle in the stock location you may run the risk of bashing your headlights but I imagine you could grab a pair at a pick n pull for a Jackson or so... For the same cost in steel, you could also fab some simple headlight protection if you have a welder, I don't remember... Otherwise maybe Travis could tack something up for you.
Not to mention you can sell the complete ARB for more than a cut up one, and probably net a profit in the whole deal
Stubby bumpers are awesome except for the fact that it exposes your headlights. I would chop off the sides of the front crossmember and get someone to bend up some tube to protect your headlights.
Also, in my experience, the sides of the lights are more prone to getting hit than the underside of them. That extra inch or so the ARB sticks out on the side does a lot more than you think...

LOL, not at all, just trying to plan out how best to do it. I am planning to run your bumper just trying to decide if I should do it now and keep my factory lights or wait until I have pounded on my rig a little more and say screw the factory lights and replace them with some hellas.
Unfortunately I don't have a welder but I have a few friends that can fab something up for me. Jarrod, you are right about the sides, I may have to incorporate a fender bar also.
Anyone got any good pics?
Still searching for some good pics, but coming with nada.
Theres a build on here where someone took some 1.5" or 2" square tubing and turned it sideways like a diamond and ran it underneath lights and 45'd it aroung the sidemarkers and it looked sweet. I was thinking you could add that to the stubby and it would still look really simple.
Well some punk ass kid rammed into my parked jeep last night. It was parked in front of my house, and around 2am this kid cam tearing through the neighborhood (yes he was high, and was arrested for possession).
Looks like I won't be making it to GSSE-W afterall
DAMN man thats a hell of an accident. Looks like your jeep fared pretty well too! Why no GSSE-W? Looks like a tire, tie rod, maybe drag link? Or are the rails folded =/
*EDIT* Wait I see pieces around the center of the pass wheel lol..is that his car or your jeep?
Isn't that the second car your ARB bumper has made an impression on?
He hit a parked car... On the opposite side of the street. What a dumb ass.
That sucks bud. Does he have insurance? Or do you have comprehensive?
All the parts on the ground are from the Subaru, the jeep held up great, but it looks like the axle is bent, and the longarm mount on the 'frame' side bent the uni a little.
Yep, the first was a GT mustang! haha I should be an ARB spokesman... hey maybe they will sponsor me!
He was high as a kite, the officer found about an ounce on him, so he spent last night in jail. He did have insurance, that is good, we just have to see what kind of battle it is going to be to cover all of my mods he broke. I don't have comp on the jeep because the only road time it sees is going to the gas station and pressure washer... and of course being parked on the street
