Thanks Cam. I can't wait to make it. Hopefully I am getting the sterring straightened up this week, along with adding a power steering cooler.
my jeep sold...and got brought back..
so i still have the jeep and cams lift
and maybe ill post some pics of the ferd for you to drool on later clay
minus the chrome fender shit in picture now
yeeeeee
Finally! haha
So is it a 7.3 or a 6.0?
6.0 with fresh head gaskets
Nice. You going to take the jeep to URE at all before you sale it?
nope, i dont even drive it around at all
You should borrow a trailer and tow it to URE until it sells
OK, a little update. I have put about 250 miles on the jeep since all the upgrades. I have had it aligned two times, and the caster is now aorund 5 degrees. The steering still SUCKS. It is down right scary driving on the road. I had the hydro assist ram rebuilt and that did not help the steering problem. So as of right now the ram has been removed and the tapped holes on the steering box are plugged.
I need some opinions. I also posted this in another thread, but why not here as well. Right now I have a XJ steering box installed in the jeep. It is tapped for assist, but it seems like it is need of a rebuild and that could possibly be the issues with my hydro assist. Maybe the assist is enhancing the problems with the box. In my garage I have a stock waggy box with the 4th mounting hole. What should I do? Should I have the waggy box rebuilt and tapped, or should I have the XJ box that is already tapped rebuilt?
If I put in the waggy box, what else am I going to have to change in my steering?
Just drove the jeep with out the ram, just regular good 'ole power steering, and it drives so much better!

That sucks the assist is giving you such problems. Just for my own personal reference, do you know what your toe was set to?
Also what diameter is your ram?
i was wondering the same thing after you said it worked better without the ram..
im not a big fan of hydro assist but i've never ran it. Are you running an upgraded PS pump? if not that could be your problem.. the pump cant keep up with the box and the ram.
a guy that wheels with us had an issue with his pitman arm once , he had assist and was still able to steer it back to camp. he said it was taking alot of input from the wheel to get the ram. the way he described it he said he had to turn the wheel several turns before the ram would do anything. sounds a little similar to what you are experiencing.
you are running a lockright in the front right?
I am running an aussie in the front.
if i were you i'd just drop the assist for simplicity sake. if you can't turn your wheels you probably don't need to force them. it'll be a favor to your d44 balljoints and knuckles. when i was wheeling the 44 i developed a rocking method to get the wheels turned the right direction in tight spots, basically rocking the rig forward and reverse and turning the wheel slowly while it rolled and i never had an issue with the balljoints or knuckles until i went to 38" tls..
just my .02.. fwiw
I like the idea of hydro assist, and the WJ will probably get it at some point.
Clay, 2" sounds MASSIVE for hydro assist, I think the average is like 1.5"? The volume difference to push the two is huge.
I think I may just run without the assist for now and see how it goes.
I think the ram is 2" but I could be wrong, I will take a look at it again tonight.
OK, just picked up the jeep and got home.
Where do you measure the ram for circumfrence? If it is just the part that goes in and out then mine is 3.5"
As for the toe, after the alignment today it is .04 and .09 left and right respectively.
First shake down run before GSSE. Went to URE today, the jeep is a beast! Have a real sqeaky front end when in 4wd and turning, going to have to figure that out.
Looks killer dude, you runnin limit straps?
Oh yeah, limit straps front and rear, but there is still a ton of flex with them, I am very happy with the set up.
A few more from yesterday
