I have a welder!!
Great news! The jeep started today with no problem, the winch still works and the transmission shifts into all gears no problem! So hopefully all the damage was just to the steering.
HELL ya man glad to hear that I cant wait to wheel with ya this year!!
Finally getting the Jeep towed tomorrow to get everything fixed. I am going to fix everything, but one upgrade is I am adding a Clayton belly skid.
I originally primed the bar metal skid and then starting spraying it with bedliner. Well I learned that bedliner is not compatible with regular metal primer... as soon as I sprayed the bedliner over the primer (after 48 hours of dry time on the primer) the primer started bubling up under the bedliner. So I had to scrape all the remaining primer off, I had to use brake cleaner to get the primer off, and then spray the bedliner directly onto the bare metal.
MMMM bedliner
Here is all the scraped off primer
Hell ya man cant wait to see ya out on the trails this year
Looking good bro!
I would suggest having the shop you are taking it to weld some angle iron supports to stiffen up the skid plate.
What do you suggest for supports (ie where)?
The side bends do a good job at preventing the sides from getting bent, but the skid is so big to where the middle becomes the weak point. I would cross two pieces spanning as far across the skid as possible. That should hopefully stiffen it up to the point that it should be less likely for the skid to bend.
Bedliner on a skid plate is a waste. Paint the thing with some .99 cent black for it gets removed by rocks.
Cool, thanks for the advice.
I was wondering what was removing the paint from my sliders, it must be the rocks, who would have thought I used Rustoleum bedliner, and around here it goes for $4 a can, so for $3 more maybe it will last one more wheeling trip than the $.99 can.
I have used that rustoleum bedliner on a few projects. It is pretty damn tuff.
It seems pretty durable, so we will see how it holds up on the skid.
Probably not good lol I have almost no powder coat left on my skid after just a few outings at URE
Got the jeep back home today!
New ECGS 1 ton steering
New Clayton belly skid
New Flowmaster Hushpower exhaust
Looking good man!
Thanks, can't wait to get to URE!
thats a shiney new cat you got there too clay...
glad to see it back together dude
LOL, thanks Trey bu the shiny part is the muffler, the cat is the same just a little lighter
Guess what... April 16, there might be some changes to the ZJ, stay tuned
So how is the steering? Any dead spot?
Steering is great, no dead spots, got to really test it out yesterday.
The jeep is back!!
Nice work man! Way to be patient. I was waitin for you to get pissed and throttle it.
Cool vids, just wondering what you are running for tire pressure, I a usually around 10-12lbs in that kind of rok, but your tires dont seem to have much squat to them.
