I recently pulled my 242 and took it to a local shop to have the chain replaced in it. Got everything back together, but now I cannot shift the case into 2wd. It's not a matter of linkage adjustment, even if I get under there with a pair of channel-locks and turn the selector I can only rotate the selector as far as part-time. I'm going to call the shop that put it together tomorrow morning and see what they say, but I'd like to suggest some things they may have done wrong in re-assembling the case. It's also leaking like a sieve and I need to have them take care of that as well, but that's another issue completely.
Am I thinking correctly in saying that I shouldn't have to pay them to fix this? Seems like they screwed up they should fix their mistakes for free right?
Have you tried shifting into 2wd while driving or rocking the jeep? If the teeth aren't lined up just right it wont shift.
Out of curiosity, why did you have a shop replace the chain? Its not rocket science, maybe a 2 or 3 wrench job (on a scale of 1 to 5 wrenches).
yea what ted said, try shifting from underneath while wiggling the driveshaft. if its leaking that bad then you may be right about something not being assembled right, its cold and gonna snow tonight so have tham fix their mistake in the nice warm shop.

If the case is leaking, then the tards didn't put it together right, which would explain why it's not shifting. Take it back and tell them you'll beat them over the heads with it, or they can drink bleach and give you your money back.
Want me to send you some bleach? I'm sure I could rig a bottle to release some ammonia when they open it
Isn't there a shifting pin on the inside of the case that allows for the shifting? I know there is on the 231.
I had Kevin at Jeeperz Creeperz install a SYE on my 231 in my XJ and after I was driving it a while and shifted into a 4wd a few times, I realized it wouldn't go into 2wd. I took it in and he said there was a small burr on the shifting pin causing it to not engage/disengage all the way. He fixed it, sealed it up, and filled it up for me with no complaints or charges.
Turns out as far as the shifting problem goes......I'm retarded (which I think we all knew anyways). Got that straightened out this morning...not going to say what I was doing wrong. Still gotta get in contact with them concerning the leak though.
FWIW, all of this shit is irrelevant now since I blew up my Jeep this afternoon....I guess that puts all of these repairs on hold until I can get the money to take care of all this shit.
Huh?
On the way back from getting lunch the lower radiator hose blew off somehow....the temp gauge never went past normal temp so I had no idea anything was wrong until it started making horrible noises, started smoking and died. Let it cool down, tried to restart and the engine wouldn't crank. Guessing I seized it up but I had it towed to the local mech. to be sure.
damn thats some bad luck right their. I have a 4.0 enginge for sale cheap if you want it.
the tranny shop poored acid in your radiator
bummer dude sorry to hear that
didn't you get a "low coolant" signal on the VIC?
Why on earth would the engine temp guage not climb?
Thats just too fawking bad. I hope you get some good luck coming your way.
Laredos don't necessarily have a coolant level sensor
Must've cooked his temp sensor or he has a funky cluster.
Andy needs a bucket of luck - anybody got one?
The coolant sensor never rose because there was no coolant for it to take a temp. reading from...just air. At first I was thinking about selling it but I think I would regret it. This give me an opportunity to learn how to do something I haven't done before and upgrade at the same time. I am leaning towards building a budget stroker, but haven't decided for sure yet.
time for a v8?
I would still get that t-case back to the shop and have them figure out what is causing the leak.
