I found a guy with a pair of D60's from a 2001 Ford F250 diesel. The pics show front and rear disc brakes and they seem to be in good shape. He wants $700 for the pair. Worth the buy?
the front is a ball joint dana 50 with unit bearings(POS) the rear is more than likely a sterling 10.25, decent axle but lacks aftermarket support and they both have the metric bolt pattern of 8x170mm if that makes a difference to you
id say keep looking
Crap, yea, that would be right. Alright, thanks man.
Just to be sure, this is definitely not a Dana 60, right?
Looks like a dana 50.
check the cover side of the pumkin casting "50" or "60" shoudl be cast in there.
that willtell ya.
looking at the studs it looks to be the metric pattern.
So I found another axle. This one is from a 1979 Ford F350. Its a D60 with the dual piston calipers. What is a good offer towards this one?
Depends. What are they going for in your area? I've seen them go from anywhere from $100 if they don't know what they've got to well over $1000 if they think they have the last one in existance. Ask the seller give a number and negotiate from there.
there was a guy here local that got 1200 dollars for a ford 60. the chevy 60s usually bring more here than fords because everyone has a chevy and does not want to do a lot of fabbing. on that note, i bought a complete k30 for 1200 with a bad motor and a 4 speed.
Geez, well the guy said $700, but I said that was way too much considering I'd have to regear it and don't know the condition of the other parts.
700 is a decent deal around here, i would have grabbed it
$700 is a good deal, at least around here. Could always offer $600 to see what he says. If you're going to a 60 you're pretty much guaranteed to at least have to re-gear it anyway, and replacing ball joints/ kingpins is always a good idea on any used axle, along with new bearings and u joints. That is, unless you find a built one from a project somebody's stripping down, but the price will reflect the work. 60s are kinda pricey no matter how you look at it.
That 79 D60 is much nicer than the newer ones since its rocking king pins instead of bj's.
I've never found one around me for under $900...$700 is fair but offer him $500 and you're stealing it :P
kingpin VS BJ is an age old debate.
they are great because high steer is easy and cheep.
but honestly if i were doign it again i'd go BJ. More kingpin failures lately.
Word, $500 is what I'm gonna offer him and see what happens.
why do you want a 60 so bad? i would be going after a 14 bolt full floating single wheel rear. disk or drum matter??
I'm just getting the HP60 for the front. I have a 14 bolt under a big van in my Dad's salvage yard ready to be pulled. I got the person at $600 and they will deliver it to me. Nice!
Just had it delivered. Nice guys from North Jersey. So now I have to find a bracket setup, locker, gears, locking hubs, and a steering setup. Anyone have any words of wisdom that will tell me what to watch for?
