I almost bought a running ZJ with no title to make into a trailer. Had damage to the passenger side, but I could have easily parted it to make money on the project. I am still kicking myself for it.

I picked this up in Georgia for a member of EXPO, i'll be dragging it from SC to home tomorrow where the new owner will come pick it up saturday am.

There was a dealer outside Atlanta who had imported a bunch, they sat and he finally liquidated them cheap.

I took a ton of pics of this, i can post them up for those looking for tips on their own homebuilds.

I decided a couple months ago I would pass on the trailer and just build the rig to suit expedition stuff more, but the more trailers I see the more I still want one.

Heres the kitchen setup, it's pretty cool.

Two "boxes" that swing and then open..




Then the tailgate and sheet on it makes a table with fridge slideout directly behind.

They are all sold. They were located in Atlanta.

heres ours that me and my roommate built: 2 yj tubs on 35's with custom 3-axis. we just put two jerry cans (i know, poserish but cool) mounted in front of the cooler but no pictures yet. i know it seems alittle small for long distance expedition wheeling, but it works great for carrying a bunch of gear to a camp site along the trail. it'll go anywhere the jeep goes. it'll be getting a rack on top soon for roof top tent, bikes, kayaks, etc...

This is the one my dad and I just picked up to build into our hunting and expedition trailer. Build probably wont start till around Christmas though, I have an elk hunt we need it for in the beginning of December and don't want to dive in too deep till after we get back.

This may sound like a dumb question, but do you air down the tires on an offroad trailer? Or do you keep up the tire pressure to make it easier to pull?

not the dumbest question i've ever heard. you'd keep them fully inflated because they aren't receiving power. you air down tires on drive axles to give more contact area. higher contact area times zero power nets no gain and in fact probably a loss due to smaller rolling diameter and more rolling resistance

I usually air down the tires on the M416 a bit to smooth out the ride so it isn't hopping around all over the place. I'm sure it increases the rolling resistance, but so far I've only run into one spot that was tough to get the trailer through so it isn't too bad.

My thought behind airing them down is that more contact area means that it's less likely to slip off of a rock in a more technical situation. I understand that it's all a tradeoff, but just curious what the general consensus is among those that use them. As you know, there really isn't any use for an offroad trailer in these parts, but I just asked out of curiosity.

well weight of the trailer would have a huge part in your idea there. but imo and i don't have a trailer but i would leave them filled

I do air mine down as it provides a softer ride off road so you dont shake the insides too bad its a plus when you are driving down washboard roads, Plus its a easy fill with my power tank

I've not given up on my plans to build my own offroad trailer one day. I found this one on Instructables that can definitely provide some inspiration. It wouldn't hold up to what I would use it for though.

I remember seeing a wrangler that had a trailer that was the end half of another wrangler that matched everything he had on his trailer. He had boggers, black soft 8s, painted same color, hi lift on the back, spare.. it was ridiculous. Ill see if I can find it

I've also seen this technique miracle. I wish I had thought of taking a picture of him, but it was funny. His fantasy is definitely good
