Fixing up a car hauler for a tow rig. It's going to be a tight squeeze, but the ZJ should fit. Boards were rotten through so we ripped them off to begin with.

Started in on the sanding and grinding to get rid of the rust as much as possible.

Primer to all the bare metal and then started the first coat of black equipment paint.

    Went wheeling yesterday.

Day went well until the input hose to my radiator blew. Was able to jerry-rig it together to get back out, but it was kind of frustrating. The plastic tube going into the radiator was the piece that cracked right under where the hose clamp was. The hose itself was fine, so I don't know if maybe it was to tight, or what happened...

Other than that, it was a lot of fun - I accomplished some stuff that I didn't think I could do, so I am pleased.

    Things learned:
    Need a lower temp thermostat
    Need an e-fan
22 psi is good, but I'd like to try lower in the tires

Here's the piece of the radiator that broke off. The crack running length-wise down the tube is from me prying it out of the hose.

Moved the hose clamp to the portion of the radiator still sticking out (about 1/2 in.) and then wrapped a bungee cord around it to help pull it toward the front of the jeep if it needed it.

It made it through the rest of the day and the 150 mi trip home, so something worked.

Kind of sucks that I might have to by a new radiator just for that...

That front bumper looks pretty good

I did the same mounting style on mine except I used sandwich plates on the outside of the uni-body.

Keep in mind that your gonna want some sort of cross bracing before you start winching with it in case you end up pulling @ an angle.

Just for fun - 30" from ground to tire. Not bad I guess for factory arms haha

Oh, and got one step closer to overhauling the trailer. I will need to add brakes before hauling.

I wish I knew someone with a forklift. I want to test mine out.

It's been a long time since I last updated... probably because I haven't done anything in a really long time. To make a long story short:

    1) 1st Child Born
    2) Sold bumper and roof rack to pay bills
    3) Began new bumper project

Doesn't look bad from this angle (hasn't been leveled yet):

    But here makes me cringe:

I will start some hacking to suck it back into the zj. I can't have it sticking that far out. Talk about killing approach angle!

Made progress today. I built a lower skid to protect the radiator which bolts on to the bottom of the bumper - it should be ok from anything other than a serious crunch.

It has been a long time since I posted an update for my ZJ. Nothing has really changed much since the last post, but I am starting a rear bumper build so I figured I would document it.

Factory rear bumper was a royal pain to remove. The studs that held it on were completely rusted to the nuts and it began to bend the unibody with all the torque I was putting on it - even after days of soaking them...
Eventually I had to resort to other methods to get them off.

I think it's time for some plate. I'm assuming I will want to remove the gas tank before welding back there.

I will be incorporating the hitch inside the bumper. The top of the bumper is going to be removable for storage and locking of the hitch pin inside. I will be gaining around 7" of clearance from where the hitch receiver sat before.

Gas tank dropped for unibody welding:

Stitch welded plate - I thought it came out decently.
