look good except that they are super short, looks like your swaybar is at a bad angle but i can't tell completely from the pictures. from what i remember it should be 10-15 degrees upward
You may want to elongate the threaded rod portion.. And might want to use some jam nuts to preload the threads in the heims and prevent any accelerated wear.
Cool, thanks for the info - not a big deal I can cut a new piece. The rep that sold me the end links told me I wouldn't need jam nuts for female ends... is this true? I'm not sure I understand what you are saying about the jam nuts.
I added support for skid plate - doesn't move at all now.
i have the same thing on mine, cam (atlzj) made that peice to the KOR crossmember, looks exactly the same
I think ATL ZJ means cut a longer piece of all thread and spin a pair of nuts on before installing the female ends, then tighten the nuts to the end pieces to keep vibrations and load from wearing the ends loose.
Beginning a front bumper project. I drew up some plans using Google Sketchup.
So then I started making a mock-up of the bumper from cardboard. What do you think?
Goals for Bumper:
Fairly lightweight
Winch Capable
Good Approach Angle
That is some very extensive cardboard work. I say just spray all that black and call it a day.
looks good. alittle wide but, idk if you have a reason for that
Well, I decided to just tear into it today since I had the day off. Made some good progress too!
Started by cutting some pieces of 3/16". I made some changes to the design before I began - decided to narrow it up a bit.
Tack welded together most of it:
Propped it up on the front end for looks with some boards... I decided it needed to go up and back a bit, but first it was off to the scrap yard to pick up some mounting stock. I found some 3/8" which will work for me but was severely disappointed with the price of some scrap I took to sell to help offset the cost. $.02 per pound in the door - $.20 per pound out the door.
Anyways, cut my mounting brackets and drilled my holes. Got my bolts and nuts in order and here she sits for the night:
To Do list includes:
Cutting angle pieces for lower protection
Finding some d-ring mounts
Welding
Grinding
etc.
red x's or nothing at all?
i see them
I made some progress on the bumper. Got pretty much all the pieces cut out except for some bracing and boxing in of stuff. Welding and grinding needed still. I meant to snag a pic of the bumpers mounting and bracing but forgot.
pretty bad ass, love the custom work
nice looken bumper, how did you attach it?
Thanks - 3/8" mounting brackets into the unibody slots. I welded the nuts to the mounting bolts to the insides of the brackets. Slides in pretty snug and then you can just tighten up the bolts.
mmm..
Incredible work!
Looks great.
nice design!
Finished welding. Started applying some body filler to some pockets to smooth things out. This is after a little sanding. I need to finish sanding it down and then its on to primer and paint!
Thought the d-ring tabs came out pretty nice too:
Great build, it has good lines too.
nice looking bumper, and jeep. would you mind taking some pics of the mounting setup? once it gets warm enough to do some work outside ill be starting on mine. thanks.
