Letters need to be written to show our support of keeping the trails open. This is where they need to go:
    comments-southern-north-carolina-nan...itee@fs.fed.us

But please read through the Pirate thread to get more informed about whats going on. I also had this link posted in Cams thread but felt this new stage needed it's own thread.

Also if you are able to please don't forget to donate to the Keep Tellico Open fund! The link is in my sig.

    PLEASE WRITE LETTERS!!!!!!!!!!

Be mindful of writing personal letters and not form letters as personal ones are much more impactful to the cause.

Since this thread is about Tellico, anyone going to the open house tomorrow? I'm going up to ride Tellico and most likely will stop by and see what is going on there and the general feelings of the people.

Back up to the top. Apparently there is a new proposal that will be coming from the Forest Service in about two weeks. There will then be approximately a 30 day comment period when we can submit letters in support or opposition to any of the terms of the proposal. The forest service will then make its final decision and determine the future of the Tellico ORV area. This could be THE final decision, possibly a damning one if enough of us don’t speak up.

    Here’s the post from Pirate:
I spoke with the Ranger Station this morning and I have news to share with everyone. Here's what I have learned.

    1) The new proposal/environmental assessment will be here next week or the week after. That means 2 weeks folks, max!!!!

    2) The decision will be made by the end of December of this year! No more stringing this thing out or wondering what will happen when. It's this year people. We either sack up and make our presence known or... you know the rest.

    3) There will be 6 alternatives proposed with 1 being the one preferred by the Forest Service

    4) All comments should be funneled to the Asheville office. This is where this is being handled. Candice Wyman is the woman in charge of handling this.

    5) ~500 comments were filed last period. If you think that turns heads you're in for a surprise. We're going to need double that this round.

Get your pens, keyboards and stamps ready. We have got to get on this. We have 30 days from it's release date. I hope we can count on all of you.

So start getting your thoughts together and plan to take 15 minutes out of your November to help out this very important cause.

PS for those of you who are geographically distant from Tellico, please consider writing too. Even if you have no intention of ever visiting Tellico (don’t write that), any decision to close public wheeling land sets a dangerous precedent for other ORV areas that may be closer to your home.

Ill probably never get there due to geography, but Ill write a letter. Save one trail, small loss to them; lose one trail, HUGE gain for them. We cannot sit idly by and let others set a precedent for us.

OK let's get this back up to the top. The FS is going to be coming out with a 100+ page report sometime this month. Once it comes out, we will need your help in sending comments to the forest service. Here is the official statement:

The Forest Service is finalizing the environmental analysis of a long term plan for the Upper Tellico OHV Trail System, and anticipates releasing an environmental assessment for public review and comment by early February. The public will have an opportunity to provide feedback to the agency before a final decision is made. Questions concerning the trail system may be directed to Candace Wyman, Upper Tellico OHV Project Coordinator, at 828-257-4816.
