I got a 42RE sitting in my garage right now. Pretty sure it needs to be rebuilt but it was still functioning when I pulled it. Has a little slip between first and second occasionally but other than that shift fine. Also have the converter with it. I'll bring it if someone is interested, otherwise I'm not going to go through the hassle.
