Damn. I thought I had the biggest ZJ in clemson. Not for long right? Gonna be a baddass rig man. Where are you working on it at? I'd like to stop by and check it out. I need to holler at Tommy for a cage here soon...

tommy will be helping me with this build... along with my cage also..
it will all be worked on at tommys shop... seeing that i dont have a welder or a tube binder... soo when i need help with something i can look to someone that has done this before...

stop by anytime sould be interesting to watch it be built

I'll definitely stop by. Tommy's no doubt the guy to get help from with all of that.

So is the build date going to hold strong? How is all of the prep going? What kind of thought have you put into the cage design? I haven't found a good solution for keeping enough room in the front for me (6'2") and the back seat with the cage.

build date has been put off for another 2weeks... the shop my jeep will be in is slap full of projects.. but absolutly no later then the 4th of sept. there is a big group headed up to KY end of Oct. and i want to be ready to head up there with them...

prep is going good... my rear SAWs came in along with 2 out of 8 of my coils im still not happy about waiting 3 1/2 months for 4 coils to show up...

i got with Cam tonight and picked up the 231 and rear drive shaft

my front axle shafts wont be back from being machined untill the 20th of september...

my 4linking material will be tapped and ready in 2 weeks

as far as the roll cage situtation.. i want to get rid of the HREW tube i have and get DOM.. i know HREW would work just fine but i want DOM so if you want any tube i have 120feet of it... also the design of it.. well its going to be crazy and its all in my head for now but im wanting to build a custom dash and console all built into the roll cage along with floor bracing and seat mounts for future racing seats... but all of it is worked out in my head.. not sure if it will work or not....

as for the rest of the project all i lack is the rest of the full hydro kit and a ton of little things like brake lines, brackets, rock lights, limiting straps, front drive shaft.... bla bla bla.... then once i have it up and running ill start saving for seats, winch (which i hope i will never need),

next week im going to start fabing up some trusses
so yeah im ready to get things started

stay tuned shouldnt be to much longer before it starts raining pictures

after reading BIGDAVEZJs thread on the swap on a 231.. i have run into this problem... and though it might not be a BIG problem... i think im just going to push back the build date one more time....

    Input Gear
Needs to be a 23 spline, but the length is not known until the case is actually removed from the Jeep. You can make an educated guess as to what it will be, but there is no for sure way of knowing what it is. Usually you can swap the input shaft from the 249 into a 231, but there was a change in the gear cut right around 94 or 95. I got my case from a 90 YJ and needed to swap input shafts. The one from my 249 (1995) was the wrong gear pitch, which would've seriously screwed up the t-case. I had to purchase a new input gear to match the t-case and tranny. They are NOT cheap!! I paid more for that gear than I did for the whole case. The original 231 I put in has since been retired due to the front driveshaft coming apart and knocking a hole in the case, and the 231 I replaced it with already had the correct length shaft on it. So . . . I have two spare input gears for jeep t-cases. Both are the longest there is, one old gear cut, one new.

im just going to wait awhile longer and go with a Atlas II t-case...

however that doesnt mean things wont be getting done... im workin on some pretty bad ass trusses as we speak and will not be your ordinary truss... its got dimple dies and a lot of them

ill keep everyone posted when i get though with them

CAM if you want to trade back the t-case let me know if not im just going to see if i can sell it...
is anyone interested in a 231 w/ a currie super short sye kit and drive shaft... 300$

With Tommy on board, this is sure to be a sick build.

Did Branik machine those shafts for you?

I thought the 231 might have an issue. It is just so damn hard to know what input spline length you need without looking. Can you have the input shaft shortened? Or do the splines not run the full depth of the input? Though I agree- might be easier to just sell it anyways. It'll work for somebody.

Are you going to seal the interior of those holes in the truss? I could imagine water or mud getting in there and causing rust.

i do agree with you.. and down the road it will probably start to rust a little but im really not to worried about it and will leave it how it is...

there will be some water and dirt thrown up from the tires but other then that i dont see much getting in there unless for some reason i find a river... i dont like mud so i dont play in it unless i have to

so i have a update or 2 for those that might be following the build

atlas is bought a 4.3:1 with every upgrade possilbe and will be here in the next couple weeks..

i also have scrapped the idea of using my 94 zj...

new donnor is going to be coming home sometime this week and the *new* build will begin

dont worry its still in the grand cherokee family...

i can never make up my mind on what i want to do

That thing looks a little too fancy for your rig. I'll pm you my address and we can swap it with my 249.

Just kidding... Get the damn thing in!

just out of curiosity what did the t-case run you? Also any ideas yet on how your going to mount the controls through the floor?
93ish zj, d60s, 38.5 maxxis, and a bunch of other expensive parts to make them work.

Truck stacks, for when your trucks nuts are just not gay enough anymore.
