Im new to this whole mallcrawlin thing and figure i would let you know what my plans are with my heep..... i plan on doing this build all at once and hopefully get it all done in a week (ITS SORT OF MY DD).. as of right now i still need some parts.... but im getting really close to taking a week off of work to build this thing and by really close i mean about june ..... but im getting all my parts together.... and hopfully you guys can answer some question that i might have during the process....
so i guess this isnt a budget build i want to build everything beefy so i never have to worry about them again....
the parts:
homemade bumpers and skidplates / sliders
UP FRONT
14inch SAW coilovers
79' ford hp 60, cromo shafts (35 spline everything), warn premium locking hubs, h2 wheels, SOLID knuckles and high steering arms, 4.88 gears, and to top it off with ARB locker...
4link with jonny joints (everywhere) and maybe a small strech
And for the REAR:
74' 14bolt 10.5inch ring gear, 4.88 gears, ARB locker, disk brakes and 4linked.....
still looking for a 231 w/sye or 300
i have a completely stock 94 zj with a 5.2L....OH AND A POS OF A 249.... ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE
i know this thread means nothing with out pictures.... but i still need to become a supporter of mallcrawler first so as soon as i do that i will be posting up the pictures i have
so flame on or ask questions... i cant promise i will have all the answers because this is a learn as i go deal here
I HAVE SOME 35spline cromo D60s outters for SALE.... anyone interested?? they have never used
Sounds like a nice build. I am going to have a 231 w/ sye available soon in atlanta if you are interested.
still in good shape to where i can just plug and go??? if so let me know a price and ill see what i can dig out of the seats
thanks
What kind of control arms are you going to be running with those 14" coilovers? What size tires are you thinking?
Hell ya man, sounds like a good build. All in a week!? or will you have the axles all put together before this
yeah i want to try and do it in a week.. not to sure how well that will work yet but we shall see... and yesterday i ordered all parts for my 14 bolt minus disk brakes.. and also the 14" SAW... i got my arb and 4.88 gears on the way... once those get here i will build up my rear axle... and let it sit for awhile... i still need to figure what supension i will be running... if i happen to buy a seed from maxx ill be getting SAW for the rear but as of right now im not sure what i will have in the rear.. suggestions???
at the end of next week i will be ordering my ARB for the front and gears and inner cromo shaft... and i already have the outter 35spline shafts and solid knuckles and high steering and a kingpin rebuild kit and im slowly putting the front together now...
however i will be having a friend set up my gears and lockers just so i know everything will be done right the 1st time...
so to answer your question the axles will be built by the time the build is ready.... so i cant just throw them under there and never worry about them again... thats if everything works out right... does it ever?
I think you can do it in a week. I did my lift in 17 hours in a day. Now with that said all of the extra stuff like the TC and axles.... As long as you have them ready to go in, I dont see why it cant be done in a week. Be sure to get some pictures on the project. My jeep looked so sad when i had it up on the lift with no axles under it.
yeah im going to try... but there well be a lot of work in between here and there... im going to be taking lots of pictures of my bumpers that i build and i have a buddy that is going to help me put a few dimple dies on bumpers and skid plates i cant wait to see how they turn out and i know it wont be real orginal but im going to try my hand at some rock sliders like what TNT builds.... oh yeah i need to practice my welding some too i have only welded once.... sooooooo haha
well when it comes time to you taking it off we can go from there... but i probably wont need the shaft im going to try and go about 2inches back with the rear axle.. but we shall see just let me know when you have it out
what sye is it? or where is it from?
thanks
It's actually the Currie super short SYE and I was running it with my rear axle pushed back right about 2" as well, so the shaft *should* fit about perfectly for you. I'll shoot you a PM when it's ready to go.
Cam
good deal man....
i believe that there was another thread on here that someone else had done COs on a silver grand cherokee but i cant find it again.. anyone happen to know the name of the build that was or what the URL was??
thanks but i was really talking about this one by tommy.. and i found it
http://www.mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7111
im just trying to try and figure things out and not screw myself like i have a few times already.. i have spent way to much on small mistakes and not doing my research...
SMALL UPDATE: yes i know i need to stop being cheap and start supporting and upload some pictures
but nothin much has happened just gotten a few more parts in like...
Front and Rear ARB lockers
rear gears and overhaul kit
front 14inch SAW coilovers
and 14bolt will be shaved as much as possible by the end of next week and gears and locker installed and a custom diff cover will be made for it
thats it for now
I need to become a member too, but just so ya know you dont have to be a member to upload pictures.
ha goes to show how much of a newbie i am... well in that case i will start getting some pictures of some parts and axles i guess... not that everyone hasnt seen the stuff before but im just excited about having the stuff even if right now its just laying in the garage collecting dust
so i got bored in the garage today
my ARBs
14 bolt 4.88 gears
just thought this was kinda funny on the size difference... thats a dana 35 ring inside the 14 bolt
the start of my hydro steering that i just decided i am going to do...and yes it is used... i just need the rest of the kit ........i dont know if you know the guy or not but i got this pump is from Chris May he runs in WErock... him and Drew Goldie are local to me and great guys if you happen to know them
the beef
just a bunch of random parts.. mostly for the front.. i think most of you reconize the parts.....
yep so thats about it for now...
tomorrow i start the rock sliders... or at least try to get a idea of what im going to do
sweeet
pics are huge by the way
Chris and Drew are great. You wheel at Gulches much?
yeah they are great guys...
and yeah i have been there quite a few times... but not with my cherokee yet... i sold my 97 TJ and thats the only thing that i have had up there... and its been about a half a year since i have been there and im getting the itch to get back at it again... once i get this build done i want to either head to grey rock or maybe back to tellico... but i really want to get to grey rock since i have not been there
here are some pictures of last year when i was there with my TJ
ok so call me stupid but i didnt know this and correct me if im wrong but i have come across what i think is a dana 44 in a 97 grand cherokee... is that a stock axle for the 97 with a V8???? if so is anyone interested in it...
i also suspect it has cromo or alloy shafts but have not been able to look inside to see the gears or anyhing... would anyone be interested in it??
It should be a Dana 44HD, the center section is aluminum. The strength of this axle has been debated to death. Either way, it doesn't have much aftermarket support. It's still a good upgrade (in my opinion) from the Dana 35 if you can get your hands on a 44HD Aussie Locker
