Checklist for GSW 2008

Teraflex adjustable arms are in (upper and lower). Holy shit that made a huge difference in handling! Stock bushings were mostly cooked after 12 years of beating the shit out of them.

Aussie is in too - huge thanks to SailingNut and Colorado 5.9 for helping with the installs yesterday. Scott, you saved my butt with that damn carrier shaft (Pinion shaft according to Aussie) pin/bolt.

Still need to get off my ass and call the AC shop by home and get the accumulator and hoses swapped out.

You know, it's an interesting story. . . Actually, I was leading a group through Spike and you know that part before the Crack where you have to hug that tree to the right and it's a bit of an off-camber drop? Well, I didn't recognize the tree until I was on the other side of the obstacle and went WAY left off of a 5-ft drop. Despite easing it down, because it's an overhang (as opposed to a steeply angled drop-off) I slammed down on the arm. Glad I had a metal rear bumper, because getting the other end down wasn't much prettier. Anyway, didn't actually note it until the next morning when I was doing my "pre-flight" check in the Redstone parking lot. I was pretty paranoid on the trip home (I had just had a crack in that arm welded) and kept checking it. . .but I made it. Needless to say, the arm is getting REPLACED.

Well I thought I would "POP" my cherry here and throw up my first post...As of right now I have a bone stock 2004 WJ freedom that I traded my 2002 powerstroke for ($4 a gallon sucks balls) and since it just sat in my driveway I had to get rid of it...I have had a 95 ZJ before and 2002 TJ but missed the GC the most.

I got registered for the Grand Slam, made reservations at the Rodeway inn (government discount) and my kids love the water slide...

So enough with the rambling here's my list:

Install 5'' Teraflex lift - done
Steering stabilizer - done
JKS track bar - done
265 70r17 - done
American Expedition Beadlocks
Roof Rack with spare tire mount
lights on rack
CO2
Rear brake pads
and if the $$$denero holds out, KOR tie rod and drag link...Im looking forward to meeting y'all down there...

Holy shit! Damn AC accumulator must be made of fucking gold and it must require midget Einsteins to install it! Fawkin' FSM says just evac the system, unhook the hoses, swap in the new one, hook up the hoses and charge....first shop I called wanted over 400 bones to to the stupid thing!

Anybody in CO have access to a R134a machine?

Shouldn't need the whole machine Jim. When I did mine back in the day Corey borrowed some weird vaccuum setup thingie that hooked up to a compressor and then used the bottle to add the R134a. I've seen the hose & gauge setup for < $100 at a few places.

Pretty much what I'm thinking of Dave. I just need to figure out what I need to vacuum out the old shit, separate the air and water from the freon, then put the freon back in.

Vatozone does have the manifold gauge set in their loaner collection, just have to figure out how to get the other shit.

Other thing I'm trying to figure out, and FSM doesn't say anything about it is - what about the clamp that holds the accumulator hose to the evap? Do I need to chase a tool, or will channellocks pull it?

Not sure on that. I remember when I did mine I needed some fancy tool to release some of the lines.

I'll keep poking around to see if I can get a hold of the clamp tools cheap or free.

Napa's got accumulator and hose assembly in stock, just at the store. Vatozone wants $100 for it, so Napa should be about the same. Job looks like less than an hour, depending on how long it takes to recovery the gas and vac the system afterwards. No clue why that shop wanted over 400 bones for it.

The little white tools at the top of the case are what you use to disconnect AC lines, DO NOT USE CHANNEL LOCKS.

You should be able to pick them up anywere cheap !

I was thinking you had to undo the clip looking chinga-thinga that butts up to the firewall. Sounds like it's the collar looking thing on the end of the short softline.

There is a keeper that slips over the top of the lines to lock them, unsnap that, then use the tool to remove the AC line. ITs a PITA, slide it in and with the other hand wiggle the ac aggresivly to release it. And its just behind the Engine ECU harness Loom, almost at the firewall.

If you don't wanna fawk with all that, just plumb up some sprinklers in there like I got. Cheaper, easier, and doesn't make the engine overheat!

Gotcha - I can picture exactly what you're talking about. Sounds like the keeper is just for stability so it doesn't tweak the evap. Thanks AW.

Not yet. When I extend the system to include Pam and Shaft I may do it, especially since the CO2 will already cool the water for me a little ala a soda fountain. The valves and regulators and everything may make it kinda tricky though.

Regulate before going to the destinations then. Give the beginning of the delivery system a set psi and branch out from the main. You could even pick up the water closer to the destination.

Just an idea.

That's what I was thinking, but that involves a completely different setup at the tank too. Once I get the cage and everything in I might fawk with it, since I won't be adding much to the interior after that, and the cage would give me a great place to route lines.

Finally started wrenching on the Jeep last night. The weather is warming up, so the garage isn't so cold.

My to-do-list is short this year:

- Fab up a rear tire carrier
- Finish up the rear fender cut job, using screws instead of rivets
- Install new front sway bar, softer
- Figure out why I can't keep my battery charged, electrical drain
- Grease all the jerk fittings
- Double check fluid levels and last time they were changed

5 weeks to go!

My list of stuff:

1)Push rear axle back 1/4 to 1/2", I am now rubbing the 35's after the axle swap (new axle is wider)
2)Solve leaking rear axle problem+ maybe new wheel bearings on rear axle
3)Splice rear abs lines into the front so my speedo works all of the time-now it does not work off road.
4)Install a rear sway bar
5)Fix JKS sway bar links up front-broke a mounting post due to my "custom" ss setup.
6)Re-locate steering stabilizer to between the drag link and track bar
7)Install front leveling spacers to even out ride height
8)Pick up a spare front hub or 2
9)check all fluids
10)New speakers for the stereo? damn WJ tweeter blew, and it is a long ride to Moab with 1/2 a stereo
11)New fuel filter (that or #3 is causing the WJ to stall 2* weak idle speed when I am wheeling)
12)Clean the Jeep! yup, I like the inside and outside clean on the way to Moab, cause it will no doubt be dirty on the ride home!

I guess I had better take the day off to start cracking on this stuff!
