Hey on the recall for the shitfter, what all do they do?

My Jeep doesn't start in park and I was thinking it might tie into this. It usually doesn't go into park either.

I just don't want to be stuck with some gay ass setup if that's what they do.

IIRC it makes it so that you have to hold the brake to get it out of park. our transmissions are cable shift so maybe your linkage just needs adjustment....

I think I already have to hold the brake to get it out of park. Most rigs you have to these days, so I'm used to pushing the brake.

It's just a safety precaution. A while back they were having trouble with the Jeeps popping out of park and rolling over shit/people/turtles. All they do is make it so that the shifter, without having the button completely pressed in, won't pop out of park (seeing as the tranny is cable shifted, this means it can't jump out of park).

I had it done... why not? it is one of the few times you can go to the dealer and not pay them, while at the same time decreasing your chances of running over some poor child in the mall parking lot after you get out of the Jeep.

I was going to drop my old buggy off to have this done. The only reason I didn't was because I had ground out the shift detents so I could throw from R to D and vice versa and was worried they would try and fix that.

Cars, Jeeps, trucks, etc. do not shift themselves out of park. It is operator error. This simply makes it less likely for some dumbass to accidently leave their vehicle in a drive mode.

That said, I had it done. Made the shifter a bit more stiff through the ranges.

Yeah, I think the issue was that inattentive people wouldn't make sure that the shifter got all the way into park, and this modification is supposed to help prevent that.
Fortunately, we're not getting nearly as much government control as we're paying for.

The fix is the horn honks if you take your foot off the brake and open the door
    if it's not in park.

Actually this goes back much further to the good old days when Audi was selected by the media as having a problem call "unintended acceleration" Some incompetent person put it in drive and hit the accelerator instead of the brake. Went out the driveway, across the street, into a garage and nailed the neighbor!

We have had the interlock with the brake and taking it out of park ever since.

    Dunno.

My truck and Jeep are both 98s. The Jeep I have to push the brake to get it out of park. The truck I don't.
