The jeep is about to get all kinds of TLC. My sliders are in the last stages of construction (stripping and painting). I have secured a dana 44a. It does not have a locker but I think i can get one. Im also going to see puma on sat and purchase his t case skid and his gas tank skid.

I was cruising around on craigslist the other day when I came across this....(click the image)
It is a rebuilt AMC 242 out of a YJ. This motor only has 20,000 miles on it and its going to replace mine that has 241k on it. Im pretty stoked because my factory motor has been very good to me. I have dogged it pretty hard. I plan on resealing my transmisson and t-case as i do this install.
During this past week I also decied to paint my cladding. I went with flat black to blend into the sliders that I am going to install as soon as I get the new engine in.
I got the front locker installed in the jeep. This is great because it means I am in good shape for a URE trip this weekend. The Install can be seen here:

Edit: I was in good shape for URE except the locker had issues and needed to go to the shop. See the install for more details.

After a long fight with the locker and both 4x4 shops being baffled by it I finally got a lockright in the jeep that is working great. I took it out and wheeled it some today. It did a great job, even though I still managed to get the jeep stuck in some mud.
I got to get a poser shot for the jeep club that Im sorta running right now. Its kinda cool so I figured I would show it off. The jk just got the lift install about 2 weeks ago. Its a pretty sweet ride. His sway bars are far superior to ours. I would love to install a set in my jeep but that looks like it would cost a small fortune. I know its not flexed much but its the best you can do here in the city.
lol yeah.... its one of the few there that you can and not clog up a trail. It really sucks about your jeep.
I started working on the motor I bought for the jeep the other day. It looks like it is going to be a easy install. Im going to put another AMC 242 (4.0) back into it since the on I have now has been a champ for me since I got the jeep. The engine came with everything: wiring harness, throttle body, alt, powersteering pump. THe engine was just recently rebuilt as well so Im hoping to get a ton of use out of it. There was no sludge, grime or anything in the bottom of the oil pan after I removed it. When its all said and done I will have a engine with 20k on it.
As of on I have changed the water pump, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket. I'm going to take the alternator and every thing else off of my engine since most of that stuff is pretty new. Im thinking I will be doing the swap this coming weekend. During this I am going to replace the seals on the tcase and tranny.
I am worried about the chain hoist being tall enough to pull the motor out of my jeep. Right now the best thing i can think to do is put on the 2 stock front tires and remove the coil springs. It will make it hard to work under though.
I was looking around on craigslist today and i found a sweet deal on a dana 44. Its out of a widetrack jeep what i dunno. So no im on the look for a rear. I'm thinking a 60 or a 9" i want something of the same weight and width of the 44. Right now th axle is set up with 3:51 gears. Its missing a hub and a rotor but i only paid $50 for it. I really cant complain to much about that. The guy threw in some 60 parts too. Hell of a guy. I'll post up some pictures when I get a chance to.
Today was kinda fun I got to play with the 44 that Im going to put in my jeep. Its completely stripped except for the ball joints. So Im going to start the cleaning and welding part of the build to prep it to go under the jeep. Once I get all of this done I will start to gear the axle.
Some of the stuff was a pita to get off of the axle. WD-40 was my friend.
hope you got a sandblaster...
No sandblaster for me. I got to do the strip by hand with a big grinder and a twisted wire wheel. Its done being cleaned and is waiting on gears and brackets.
Looks good, have fun w/ that front axle. Take your time and do it right.
Is that a WHS Lacrosse sticker?
Yeah im the head jv coach there. I really like the school and the kids are great. I take it your from the area.
Nice. im sure the school has changed alot since you were there. Theres another new school opening out there this year. That makes 2 in 2 years.
I haven't got to do much with the jeep or the 44 in awhile. I did install a new header and a replacement steering box this weekend. It sound so much better. I went with a off brand header so im curious to see how it all works out. Im hoping that its not a piece. The install was not bad at all except for the bottom bolts on the intake manifold. Ill do it all again when the weather is warmer and i can do my engine swap.
Well its a sad day.....
I just got a 99wj with a new 4.7 in it. The Zj has been getting worse and worse over the past few months so it was time to do something. I will be putting the lift up for sale before long.
