Well, I have PM'd a few of you but have been trying to keep this trip some what quiet because of it being a surprise. Suzanne cracked and told Brett (SLO MO) about the trip so I'm posting this for everyone so that if there are others that have not been PM'd or notified and are able to join will get this in time. Brett will be flying in from Canada on Sept 21st and we are planning a trip to Spring Creek on the 22nd. We will be hitting the trail early to try and get ahead of the usual traffic this trail brings. As of right now there are about a half a dozen rigs going. Hope to see some GSW rigs as well as others there.

Military cargo jet to bring the WJ? It's hard to get past that weight limit when checking a crate on United.

End the trail by driving down into Georgetown, much more scenic then driving back to Idaho Springs.

I might be able to make this.

Unfortunately since this was a surprise trip no arrangements were made to bring his WJ down but I do have a WJ in the garage. Maybe he could build it up as a spare and make this trip more often. For this trip he will just be riding shotgun unless he wants to take turns behind the wheel. I was thinking of dropping back down into Georgetown, I have not been that way yet and have herd of the scenic views coming down the switchbacks. Hope the "definite maybes" turn into "for sures" soon.

Yep, the Georgetown views are great! But you want to drive up Spring Creek and down to Georgetown. Too easy to drive down the Rock Garden on Spring Creek and that's no fun.

I did not even run it down hill. Was still babying it. Also had an issue of the rear wheel damaging my wheel well. Superlift finally sent me extentions for the stopper to prevent the damage.

Would like to join you on this trip but will understand if you do not want too many vehicles or take someone new. Time to see what she can really do.

    Thanks,
    Will

I was thinking 9:00 AM at the trail head. Do you think that will be early enough to beat the rush?

    It's a WK, we don't expect articulation.

(This from the guy who's replacing his ZJ with a WK)

It'll be kinda hard for me to bring it since I won't have taken delivery of it!

    Delivery in mid October, probably.

Also, I'll need to sell the ZJ so that I have mod-money for the WK.

Are you getting a CRD? I test drove one and LOVED it but can't see spending the money for it yet. I will have to wait a couple years when the prices go down.

I'm getting a 4.7L Gen II. 305 HP, 334 Torque. Flex Fuel, okay fuel consumption, lifetime warranty (want that mainly for the tranny coverage).

I'm only going to drive the WK about 8K miles a year, so I just couldn't justify spending $2500 more for a CRD and losing the lifetime warranty.

Ok, so there seems to be some talk on Colorado4x4 on doing Spring Creek the same day that we are going up. I think that we might have to be on the trail by 8:30ish to get in front of the Colorado4x4 group. This trail gets pretty congested and if we don't want to be sitting waiting for a thousand folks to get thru we need to plan for early. I am planning on dropping the truck and trailer off in Georgetown by 8:00 and driving back to the trail head and being ready by 8:30. What does everyone else think?

I've been in big groups on spring creek (over 20) and the only spots that get backed up are the first wall obs and the rock garden. As long as we're AHEAD of everyone else, I think we'll be fine. 9:00 would be appropriate in my opinion.

There is another group meeting at the trail head at 8:30. I'd say 8:00 if you want to beat everyone up.

Well I guess the few times that I have been up there I have been stuck with the ill prepared folks who clog everything up. That is the main reason for my concern. I have sat at the 120° left turn waiting for more than 3 hours before getting the oportunity to get thru. Another time we were at the same place and it started to clog up so we just turned around and went back down. I've only been up there once that I have not had a issue, but that was on a weekday.
