Oh Santa was good to me this year....

I got some SOLID Diff covers for the front & Rear. Adapters for a shovel/axe and a Hi-lift bracket for my loadwarrior. I got the parts to fix my leaky rear axel and I bought myself some slotted rotors for the rear. With the funds I got I bought a new front Tom Woods Drive shaft.

I have some time under the rig in my near future...

Ok, So I spoke to my contact at IROR as they are building a D44 JK axle with all the mounting fabbed up for the WJ.

I asked for some clarification on length. He informed me that the JK axels are in fact longer than the WJ axel.

The JK axle may be wider than the WJ. I have never measured a JK. Seriously, go measure the axle under your rig. I just measured the one on floor out of my WJ and it's about 64" WMS to WMS. I hope he's not getting the measurements from the same place you got them. A WJ rear is 5" wider than you thought it was.

In perspective the JK axle would have to be 66" wide and the dana 60 rear out of a '79 F250 is 67". That's what is considered "full width". I have one under my WJ and the Iroks stick out pretty far on both sides. I'm not trying to be a dick, I just really want you to go outside and use a tape measure to find out for yourself.

No worries. I was planning to measure it when i pulled the wheels off to rotate the tires but by the time I got everything off I couldn't find my tape measure.

Though that still doesn't help me with the width of the JK axels. Thats why I asked the guys building it the jk44 for direct install into the WJ.

Regardless I have been rethinking my wj dreams. I am leaning towards just throwing on some front LA's 33's 4.10 gears and picking up a local D44A locked and call it done.

I am thinking of keeping it as a DD and weekend family camping/trail rig. I am checking out mostly completed TJ as my main wheeling rig.

Most of the time the rear 35 is the biggest issue. When locked it usually snaps like a twig under the skinny petal. Our rigs are just too heavy for this axle (not one of Jeeps better ideas), but they really didn't design for over stock sized tires. If your not looking to go huge on tire size it might be a good idea to build a ford 9" rear with wheel adapters in the rear. I know a lot of guys running a 9 in the rear and the stock 30 in the front with no issues. Hell to be honest I wheeled mine for 2 years on the 35 before putting a set of 60's under it. The 35 locked has a bad habit of breaking shafts with 33" and larger tires.

Nope not the turdy5. I am referring to the 44a. A local dude has one with an aussie all slapped together. He is searching for a different axle to switch to and when he changes Im picking his up.

The AL44 would be a good alternative to the 35 for sure. They say it has some issues with bearings being chewed up. I have not ever seen this first hand so I can't say that this is common. I would check and see if the drive shaft is different. I'm pretty sure they are. If he swaped the rear out you might be able to get the DS too. Do you have a SYE in yet?

Nope. Just got a front Tom Woods Drive shaft. Dont have any issues with the rear and am waiting till I get there to have an excuse to tackle that.

I sadly have a rear axle seal that went bad and I think the rear main seal is leaking. Maintenance is on my list of things to get done soon.

JK Axles built to drop into the WJ. Pretty sweet. They are saying it has a Track Width of 1.75" over the WJ on stock wheels. The spacers they are offering are only to clear the 16" rim and only add 6/16 to the track width.

That's a really good deal. The #'s for WMS to WMS were a free for all in the earlier posts. Here is a pics of the D35 out of a WJ to end the WMS to WMS debate. Like I said I was not sure of the JK axles, but it seems to be a good replacement for the boat anchors that come under our rigs.

Is that WMS to WMS or simply the axle w/o the breaks?

IDK, but it did list the brake rotors on the post. Haha, we cleaned up and resolved the issue of how wide the WJ axle is, but the JK axle remains unsolved. Damn it, now I'll have to find a JK at the mall and crawl under it with a tape measure. lol

Seriously!!!! I have started a thread at JF to see If someone would measure it when they had the wheels off. No one is jumping in line to do it but I will keep bugging till I can find someone who is rotating their tires.

I just keep getting people's speculations which is a WASTE OF TIME!!!!

Ill post if I find out the answer.
