He's holding to the body pretty good. Looking nice!
Loving the quick updates. Keep em coming.
will you be putting the front fenders back on?
Unlikely. First time I wheeled with the fenders off was an eye opener for visibility and being able to make it through some tight turns I otherwise wouldn't have been able to make.
Got ya, Thats what I figure when I saw how far out the tube was from the body. I know on mine I had to cut notches to sink the tube far enough into the unibody to get the fenders back on.

So when do the 1tons come?
Wow haha, how many bends in that lower windshield bar? Nice looking lines, keep up the good work. any plans to skin the lower portion of the rear "door"?
In due time. I'm trying to save up for a house now, so 1tons are unfortunately put on hold. There were serious safety issues with my old setup, so I felt my life was more important than breaking axles
I think Mike said it took 9 bends. Skins will eventually be added.
Not right now. I want to do a dovenose, but I haven't gotten around to moving stuff around in the engine bay, so it's probably staying like that for the time being.

good to hear about the dovenose, when you said you didn't want to put the fenders back on for visibility and tight turning thats what I was thinking =D
I snapped some spy pics last night...
HA "please gusset here"...
Looking great! That is going to be very easy to skin. I've never seen ZJ tubework run quite that way before- props for coming up with something different. any plans to join the sheetmetal inner fender/upper coil perch and the tubing for strength?
Yeah, I was at a loss on how the rear quarter would work out (as was Mike for a while), but he just decided to try it and I think it turned out great!
You can't really see it in the pic, but there is tubing from the "Please Gusset Here" node going to a fish plate just above the spring perch. The inner fender is pretty close to the tubing, so he's planning to weld the "tube fender" to the inner fender. The tube fender is actually bent on two planes, so the skins might be a bit tricky there, but the rest of it should just be flat. I might just wait on the skins for now to take advantage of the visibility, but we'll see.
B pillar will likely have the "A" style triangulation. 2 1" tubes are going down the center of the windshield in an upside down V.
Are you just tacking the tubes down at the bottom so you can lift the exo up as a whole for 100% welding on the tubes? or no?
EDIT* Fuck me dude, I just noticed the rear 1/4 panels. SUPER good looking!
To make sure it doesn't fall apart, he's going to weld what he can without doing crazy body contortions or overhead welding then lift it off the body to fully weld everything (hence why the body mounts are just tacked now). That was part of the motivation to chop the roof starting at the B pillar.

Hey guys.
I'm Mike, the guy working on SirFuego's cage. He told me that there was a thread going over here, so I thought I'd check it out. Thanks for the kind words. Any questions, let me know. It's a work in progress.
yeah they are small bends, but I noticed that. lexan twists pretty well to gradually transition between different planes. and you can always just leave lexan clear temporarily to help with the visibility... at least til it gets dirty or yellows from ultraviolet exposure and you decide to paint it.
ok I'm done clogging your thread up with skins talk. but they really do help deflect a lot of water and dirt thrown off the tires
