Looks good on the ramp but hows it do on the trail? Between building a decent spring back, and fabbing shackle mounts+the need of a traction bar you are almost to the point of a decent 4 link. Why not do it right??

New to the sight, I've had leaf springs on the rear of my 01 grand for 3 years and over 50,000 miles. The up side for me is less parts, more stable. On the flip side, you may give up flex.

Who is to say which is the right way?? Like I have said before this setup works for me just fine I am very pleased on how its performed so far. The leafs are mounted VIA a shackle kit from Ruff Stuff very easy to set up. As of right now I have not had the need for a traction bar and I am using a set of stock 2wd MJ leafs which matches pretty nicely to a set of 6.5" coils.

"Right" is a very relative term in most cases.

The welds look iffy on the frame- a sleeve would be better. I'm thinking about this setup too. Very cheap to do. I blew my 35 and am getting and 8.8 next weekend. $$ is something I don't have much of and the leaf is a posibility.

I was considering leafs in my zj when i did my 8.8 swap but i decided to go with springs.

i wish i went with leafs. I already want to go up to 6.5" or 7" of lift, but my short arms wont allow that. Long arms are about a grand as well, leafs are easy to lift since they're so simple.

I'm definitely doing leafs- starting on Saturday. I will take pics and do a write-up if anyone is interested.

Since I don't really know how much lift the springs will give me, it will take some tweaking before it's right.

I plan on using the lower control arm mounts (reinforcing them) and mounting the shackle mounts to my rear bumper. I'm planning on using XJ rear springs. I held them up and it looks to be right for the mounts. I'm not sure what size shackle I'll be using or if I'll need an AAL or not. I'm doing SOA and will just use a bolt to mount the shocks to the frame. I'm also reusing the plates and U bolts from the 8.8.

Does anyone know about inboarding the shackle mounts on the rear to aid in articulation? I'm thinking about doing this but need to read more. Just an inch or two. Thoughts? This is primarily off road, but is tagged and will see some street time (mostly just down the road).
