The 01 WJ limited I just bought has 2 of the "popular" problems. First is the blend doors. There is plenty of info on fixing these. Second- the seat heaters. When i bought the jeep I thought they were broken. I still tried to use them anyway.. and one day I turned it on one cold morning and my ass got nice and toasty. I want this feeling back. Out of the 15-20 times I have tried to use the seat heaters, they have worked twice. I know the passenger side heater works most of the time, because my girlfriend hates seat heaters for some reason and i turn it on when she is not looking and it always pisses her off.

Does anyone know of a fix for the seat heaters? What exactly is the problem?

Note: I know i'm bitching about my seat heater. I know that seat heaters aren't hardcore and i feel like less of a man for trying to fix them.

I remember reading on JU awhile ago, that there was some recall or warranty issue with WJ heated seats. There was a incident where a member burned his balls from the seat malfunctioning

Yeah, I just got mine replaced at the dealership. There is a recall. Not sure if it'd affect yours or not, but definitely worth looking in to. The guy was telling me that a ton of them are really charred when they pull the seats apart to do it. Maybe it's better yours broke to begin with.

Recall No. F17 - HEATED SEAT ELEMENTS
    Issue Date: 07/2006

    NHTSA Campaign ID number:
Potential number of units affected: 123,000
    Model year(s): 2003-2004
    Manufactured: Vehicles built after 09/10/2002
Owner notification start date: July 2006
Defect: The front seat electric heating elements on about 123,000 of the above vehicles may overheat and cause an interior fire under certain operating conditions.

Solution: Both front seat heating elements must be replaced.

Switch them around. You like them and your girl friend does not. Problem solved.

That's a good idea actually. However if I am actually going to open up the seat anyway i might as well fix it.

Depending on the exact time and build of your jeep, there are three differant versions and TSB's for repairing them. The most popular reseaon is the Heater grid (heater element) under the seat cover. Again, depending on when built, you can replace just the grid or may have to replace the entire seat bottom assembly. This is the same problem on ZJ's, but you can replace the grid on all of them.

I know it has been a while since this thread was updated, but I found this post, and it looks like it can help.
