I found a pretty cheap 44a locally, and because funds are tight I would rather go this route for now with my v8 swap... It will be a direct bolt in...I could always upgrade to a 8.8 as I can get them fairly cheap too....Anyways I searched and searched, and obviously know that the 44a is limited to lockers, but will a steel 44 spool work? I know I can always weld the spiders up...but I wanted to know the options on this bastard.

    thanks fellas

from what i understand the 44a has nothing in common with the 44 except part of the name and the axle shaft spline count

Nope. 44Fe and 44AL are not the same. The WJ and ZJ 44AL are different also. Search this site if you want more info. Get an Aussie Locker, make your own mini-spool or swap axles.
