well i got bored so hers my rig..
here she is in 2003.. only thing done is the wheels...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/zj95/jeep.jpg
Then we put a 2 inch bb on it and some rancho 9000's
but a few weeks later we ended up haveing to replace all the front bushings so instead of staying stock we went ahead and put a pro-crap 3inch lift on it... (biggest regret) and we stayed with the stock tires since they were pretty new.

Here is the first pics i took of it with the three inch on it.. its so blingy! lol that was the last time i washed it... gosh those tires r ugly!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/zj95/100_0033.jpg

so anyways i wheeled with the stock tires for a while..

If you drove a real ZJ you wouldnt have had to have Austin and that other guy hook 2 winches up to get your tweaked unibody off that boulder. Thanks again for shooting the sand on my ZJ when you were stuck.

well he does love the penis, but has anyone else had their lower control arms crack off too? Mine did the same thing a few weeks back after beating it up pretty good. Ive pounded it back straight and rewelded but still breaks so im just gonna order a new lca bracket.

ok i went to the junk yard the other day to get a lid for my center consle .... i saw this under an exploder and just asked how much they wanted .... the girl said she didnt know and asked what i would pay... i told her (lieing) that i could get it at a junk yard in pheonix for $175 and she said that she would take that...

Sooo.. instead of getting a $5 center consel lid i got an 8.8... haha
It is out of a 1996 ford exploder with 109,000 miles and has 4.10 gears and limited slip.

heres what it looked like when i bought it.. (sway bar and ebrake cables came with it.. anyone need them?)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/zj95/88%20install/100_1090.jpg

i took off all the unnessesary crap

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/zj95/88%20install/100_1099.jpg

heres a picture of the limited slip carrier
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/zj95/88%20install/100_1107.jpg

took out the shafts and brakes

and here is how it sits now.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/zj95/88%20install/100_1106.jpg

Plans....
i will be installing it with the factory limited slip for now but will prolly get a locker in a few months

i will be wireing it to keep ABS but putting a toggle on the ABS to turn it off when off road

using brackets off of an old d35

regearing front d30 to 4.10s
More to come

the owner of the local jeep club is going to help me do the gears and bracket mock up so i do have someone with more experience helping me but ill be doing atleast half the work... it will be a good learning experience

and the wheel spacers i got were from ebay... not the best but they will work

Loose the ABS and don't waste your time messing with the tone ring.

zj95
02-24-2007, 06:54 PM
I need the ABS because of insurance and because I tow trailers alot....

it will have a toggle on it tho..

plus everything is done except the super technicle wiring... only took a hour and 1/2

chadjans
02-26-2007, 02:23 AM
How does ABS relate to insurance?

And get a tow rig if you tow trailers alot.

BigDaveZJ
02-26-2007, 02:37 AM
I need the ABS

Cuz you get so much snow and ice in Tucson!

zj95
02-26-2007, 02:42 AM
if u get in an accident and the insurance finds out that u screwed with the ABS they will not cover you...

and there is no need for a tow rig... jeep does fine.... why would i pay for another vehical, maintaince, insurance.. if theres no need?....

it pulls trailers every weekend... (18' boat, 20 ' quad trailer) but it does fine...

zj95
02-26-2007, 02:47 AM
Cuz you get so much snow and ice in Tucson!

haha yup..... i personally hate ABS but its so simple to keep it and i got to keep the insurance happy

but there will be a toggle on it for when i go wheelin....

chadjans
02-26-2007, 10:21 AM
if u get in an accident and the insurance finds out that u screwed with the ABS they will not cover you...

And you heard this from? If this logic held true, everytime the ABS dummy light comes on and someone happens to get into an accident they are not insured.

BigDaveZJ
02-26-2007, 10:45 AM
And what about vehicles that never had ABS?

zj95
02-26-2007, 12:53 PM
if the ABS dummy light comes on and it quits working that is not your fault... it is an accident... just like if a brake line burst and u hit someone... not your fault.. the burst is just what caused it..

but if the insurance finds out that YOU disconected it they now have an argument to not cover u..... if its so easy to keep it and and advoid messing around with insurance then just do it!

and same goes for cars that do not have ABS from the factory.... it's not your fault that it didn't come factory...

BigDaveZJ
02-26-2007, 12:59 PM
and same goes for cars that do not have ABS from the factory.... it's not your fault that it didn't come factory...

But if you bought it knowing it didn't have ABS then isn't it still your fault?? :finga:

chadjans
02-26-2007, 03:16 PM
Has the "grind every other tooth method" even been proven to work? The Chrysler ABS has two rear signals and the Ford has one center.:welcome:

And have you even posed the lack of ABS question to your insurance agent? Generally there are other extunating circumstances around an accident other than ABS failure like the lack of the ability to drive a lifted and high center of gravity vehicle.

zj95
02-26-2007, 04:13 PM
haha dave...:flipoff2:

the ABS on the 8.8 swap has worked before.. http://www.mallcrawlin.com/forum//showthread.php?t=2880&page=2

having the ABS doesnt mean the insurance WILL cover you just means they have one less thing to whine about..

Thats kinda what I said about mine... the 9" has been sitting for about 2 months now and all I've really gotten done is pulling it apart and cutting off the old brackets.

Looks good though, seems like you have tons of spare parts too.

zj95
04-09-2007, 11:59 PM
yeah the guy set me up....

he gave me all the parts in the first pic and a set of spare 8.8 parts

yeah... i asked the guy at the driveshaft shop for some bolts and he went on got those.... seems like he uses them alot because he knew the exact size/thread..... but im still not sure...

they seem like they would be strong enough... the heads on them all are stamped with a 8.8, anyone know what that means?

all that is left on the 8.8 is install the brakes and driveshaft...

diff cover hits the gas tank skid, but not to bad... nothing a cut off wheel wont fix

then tomarrow we will swap out the d30 for the hp30..

overall i think it was a good day

chadjans
04-23-2007, 02:26 AM
The gas skid is about the same dimension as the gas tank. So if it is hitting the skid it will also hit the tank. You should shorten up your lower arms that you just lengthened. What is your rear pinion angle? Running a double card rear shaft?

zj95
04-23-2007, 02:33 AM
it is hitting by about 1/4 inch... it will be fine and should clear the plastic tank

if i shorten the arms then the pinion angle is way off and i would have to cut off the brackets on the axle.... not fun..

pinion is at about 8* alittle high but it's alright..

and no double card rear shaft..

kevinc
04-24-2007, 02:09 AM
Mine barely rubs the gas tank skid as well. the skid on mine sticks out about 1.5" farther towards the front than the gas tank. Looks good DJ. how long are your rear shocks? nice track bar, princess.

Kevin

zj95

not sure how long these shocks are... james gave them to me to replace the rs9000's i had for my 2" lift.. lol... but at ride hieght if i take off the bottoms and let them hang they are about 2" from the ground

5.5" lift + shocks for 2" lift=no down travel

corrupt143
06-08-2007, 12:32 AM
i think ill do that

thx... never thought of just slicing itThats what I did on mine and works really good. Just slice between the spot welds and all is good. Make sure to make more cuts where the fender curves or you'll get some waves (ask me how I know).

I was gonna suggest it for the front too, but then I read you already did your trimming. I sliced and rolled the front and when the wheel was stuffed and turned it still caught. So I ended up slotting the front fender mounting hole (front and under) and pulled the front fenders out an extra 1/2", give or take. No more rubbing at full stuff with stock bumpstops and no trimming.

haha assholes....

that bumper is in the process...

it came off a full size f150, and has a pierce 9k winch on it. (its a bad mommajamma)

I GOT IT FOR FREE.. so no i didnt spend anymoney on it before anyone ask

i dont like how far it sticks out, sticks out 12 and a half inches total, but im goin to be trimmin it down so i can get some of my approach angle back

the only way the pierce winch mounts is with bolts by the fairlead, the back of the winch is 1/4" away from the AC condensor, and it is as high as it will go without cutting off the factory front bumper thingy

i was screwin around with it today and trying to figure out how to mod it so it doesnt look like i mounted a small village to my jeep and i will prolly end up building a whole new bumper or selling this one for a warn 9k that will fit better

but for now it works, i just moved to a new town and dont have anyone to wheel with so im goin out alone everytime

Still have to weld in the rear tube mount on the skid, then paint it.. other then at its done...

Clayton should really atleast drill the holes in the crossmembers, even if you still have to tap them..

If you dont get the holes exactly centered in the skid holes, the bolt heads dont sit quite flush... and none of mine were centered dispite me using a center punch. Even tho they arent flush they are close enough that I dont see them being a problem.

I would consider getting an extra thick washer to replace the ones holding the skid in place and weld them to the cross tube. Is that cross tube removable by means other than a sawzall?

i was just joking, i ended up not building it anyways cause my friend with the welder is going to be in arizona for the summer and we ran out of time after we built my sliders.

but i was just going to make a rear crossmember and a tie a piece of sheet from it to the stock front crossmember...i got that idea from puma...but its also pretty much what claytons belly skid is as well.

does it make it hard to drive? rock back and forth like a bad VC on a 249, or does it just cause some spinning of the tires on tight turns.

chad, no it isnt removable without a sawzall...

Derek it acts just like anyother vehical with a spool.... the tires slip in corners, not hard to drive... very predictable, hardly noticable if you make your turns wide.

Derek33

yeah the 8.8. im just getting all my parts ordered to get this sucker on the jeep.

mini spools seem to be easy to find, and pretty cheap. heck, id pay the 85 bucks im looking at just not to have to line those spider gears back up and make sure everythings in place. and havin to replace these every couple years isnt too big a deal.

Pics are with front wheel drv only

Think i need stiffer rear springs, the RE 3.5 fronts flex way to much.. the front has no chance to flex at all

Rear coil buckets are done... need to clean up the punch seem and paint them

Still need to order SYE and rear DS but it was put on hold becuase i bought a new DD

Its a 1994 ZJ with the 5.2 and...

102,000 miles
Cold ac
Stock
Clean interior (besides theft damage that will be fixed next week)

The guy was tryin to sell it for 2500 but the night before I went to look at it someone tried to steal it.

They broke the ignition switch all to hell, broke the clear gauge cover, and Fucked up every door lock cylinder on the thing

I ended up talkin the guy down to $1,800

Today I put new ignition switch ($30) and replaced a fuse and it fired right up, the rest of the broken stuff Im gettin off goose2125 on here.. super cool guy.

Also today i had a chance to look it over better.. I have no clue how i looked over it but it has no front DS.. WTF..

We all know about the 249 and no front shaft.....

It drives fine without it but im thinkin thats because the 249 is prolly shot already and someone took out the shaft to stop the bucking in the corners. No biggy as i planned on gettin rid of the 249 anyway

Plans for the dd are to keep it simple

2"bb
235/75R15's
Swap 249 for 242 hopefully or 231
Lock the d35 and once the tcase is swaped lock the 30
Tune up
CCC Treatment

It will be used for camping and whatnot

Im hoping to get atleast 16mpg on the highway

The only thing better than 1 ZJ is 2 ZJ's. The build looks good nice find on the DD.

How thick of steel did clayton make that belly skid out of? Can you get any measurements off of it?

Sooo Ive been putting this thing off for a few months because of the new dd but I did alittle tonight

But no pics... lol

I reinstalled driveshafts, and lowered it down to 5.5" for now.

I still plan on ordering the sye and goin 7" but dont need the 7" for my 34's

I drove it up and down my street and the rear ds seems to work fine at 5.5 so thats good. Ill take it on the highway tomarrow.

Ill get pics tomarrow

I need to order longer brake lines, and make some temparary limit straps before I do any "real" wheelin.
