Is this upgrade worth it? If so where does a guy get them gor a 4. 2000 Grand?

Rubicon express sells one.

I personally think it's not going to give you much of a gain. Maybe it will give you something noticable if you port match the intake manifold and TB.

if your handy you can bore yours out to 60mm all the way through yourself.

I have also "HEARD" on JU:smt044 (yeah I know) that the 97+ 4.0L TB's are 62mm bore and go down to 55mm at the bottom, but I have not had one to actually measure it for sure! SOOO if this is true you can bore yours yourself for 62 all the way through.....

Talk to MtnWJ about your 4.0 WJ.

He has been tweaking his 4.0 and it climbs up I-70 to the tunnel really well. Coming back from Moab he got a head start on me up the "hill". I was starting to catch him in my 4.7, but he was really moving.

Sorry just saw this post question.

In my opinion the bored TB was one of the best power and MPG adders I did. I used a Fastman 63mm. They are bored out units will completely new butterfly faps. At the time it was 150 plus 80 for the core. I kept the old TB to use on a friends 4cyl YJ.

So far with the combination of 4.10s to keep me in the right RPM range in both 2nd and 3rd gear on 32s or 33s, Cat back type exhaust, Ford 5.0 injectors, KN filter and the TB it does pretty decent up and down I70 in Colorado.

4.10s worked good and allow me to run 60mph in 2nd
Cat Back (open type muffler and 2.5 inch tube out the back helped a little on highway.
5.0 injectors not noticeable change and are same size as stock ones.
KN filter did very little.
Fast Man TB was the last thing I did and made the most improvement. Power went up and so did Gas Mileage. I think the combo of, gears filter, exhaust and TB made the trick.

what about larger TB and a TB spacer? that going too far?

I run a fastman and it made some difference. Was probably just the fact that the body was cleaner. A spacer does nothing.

I found my 62mm one on ebay and even had the guy poweder coat it red for me so I got the :bling: status.

I put in a spacer at the same time, basically got it CHEAP so thought what the hell.

I run a stock TB that I bored out to 60mm all the way through and just b/c I basicly stole it off ebay I have a 62mm "helix spiral" spacer that is about worthless but I got it cheap:D
FYI according to GoJeep the spacer only adds 0.076 Liters of volume vs the whole manifold volume of:
91-98: 2.6 Liters
99+: 4.3 Liters
so basicly the spacer is a "drop in the bucket" difference

Since the post was resurected: Jordan, did you ever verify this, if so I'll have my brother keep his eyes open in the bone yards:) Can you say roto-rooter...

no not yet.... I seem to forget things once I'm at the yard and then remember them when I get back home:smt075 and there are not many 97+ 4.0L's in my cheap yards. anyways I don't have a micrometer to check for SURE but I just now remembered that the hole in the intake manifold is 62mm stock so I guess I could take off the TB and hold it upside down (stock taper is below butterfly) on the intake manifold and stick my finger down the TB to see if the top portion of the TB is port matched to the intake manifold hole and then that would tell if it is 62mm.... hmmm I'll try and keep an eye out. If so then I'll be on the hunt for them too and make some sweet $MOOLA$ machining them out:D

On the power list posted at JU by Dino,
1. K&N FIPK: 7hp (XJ/WJ), 12hp (YJ)
2. Bored 62mm TB: 3hp
3. Bored 62mm TB spacer: 2hp/3lbft

For $150 for as little as 3hp doesn't seem worth it, but now I'm considering it again since Mtn_WJ mentioned how you felt it was worth it.

Mtn_WJ, on http://www.thefastman.com/Throttlebodies40.asp

They only offer the I6 4.0 with a 62mm throttle body. Do you have to ask to get a 63mm and should you might as well get the 63 instead of 62mm?

I recently put on a fastman 62mm TB and it made a difference. I'm not sure how much because I combined it with some headers and a FIPK as well as cleaned my intake, but with 35's and 4.10's it drives like 3.73's and 31's. My .02
