Just sayin hey and thought I'd throw in a couple of pics. I'm going to be doing a lot of work here in the next few weeks. Just cut the back off and threw in some racing seats. Going to be bending up some more tube here soon for the exo...

I'll keep you updated with this post:

I think this deserves a little more applause. He's thinking for himself and building it how HE wants, not just how some webwheeler on a Jeep forum told him to.. Sure he could call up rubicon express and get a bolt on kit but that wouldn't be worth even discussing, now would it?

What leaves are those and what are the axles out of? Looks well put together as far as I can tell.

He is going to be uniqe thats fosho. It does look well thought out and well put togeather. I just feel like leafs and on GRAND is the answer to the question nobody asked.

Definately different.
Have you had a chance to run it yet?

A properly set up SOA performs amazing.

i like it

hell of alot easier to swap in an axle with leaves, looks like you extended the wheelbase a couple inches too

I am really diggin' the extended wheelbase look. And am interested in seeing how the spring hangers and shackles were done.

Looks good man! Keep the pictures coming.

What's with everyone jumping on the "it's a bad idea" bandwagon right off the bat, only if the first respobnse is "it's dumb?"

There's nothing wrong with SOA, most of us here wouldn't do it to a quadracoil ZJ, but it can be done well and flexy for much under the cost / labor of building a LA suspension.

So what's everyone's problem with it?

It's different that's why Matt.

My friend's SOA CJ performs awesome on the trail. Better then some of the LA'd TJs.

Differenately post up some info on what you did, what kinda springs your running etc.

I guess we all should be fair and reserve judgement untill we see it on the trail. I just think it is kinda "backwards" if you know what I mean.

Lotsa fun to see all of your reactions.

Here's a little of the useless SOA project stuff I've done:::I've got a matching set of locked 79 Ford HP 44 front/60 rear all 8 lug and 4:10's for now, 37 MTR's on H2's, swapped in a 231J. The 14" Bilsteins are front and rear, I've bent up shock hoops where the top of the shock mounts just below the top of the rear seat and the front shocks mount right next to the valve covers. I'm using YJ front springs (a little mod and I'll swap in an XJ main for the length), and XJ rears. I swapped in and mixed and matched some springs so it would level it out. Since I chopped the back I lost a lot of weight off the back. Tonight I just did the competition cut in the rear (you can see the passenger side done in the pic below) to help out with tire rub and to get started with some more nutso ideas for the cage. I've chopped the front fender wells pretty good, and since the axle swap, I'm at 116" wheelbase (ya'll keep the "wtf" comments coming plz). And yeah, stock gas tank in the rear between the shock hoops. Been there done that with your bolt on lifts, and yes they work. It's nice to have a common ground to talk about, and wheel on. Why ask why? Keep em pretty, or keep em wheelin, aint that what we're all after? Cheap, easy, and it does the deed! Why not 4 link, coilovers, and other shizz? Well, maybe some day......

Pohzur shotz, a little articulated:::

I've seen your rig driving around a couple times. These pics were taken in front of J Alexanders a couple months ago. From what I could see there was no reinforcement to the front x-member to compensate for the added stress of hanging the leafs from it. Have you done or anything or do you plan to do anything there?

UGLEZJ
08-01-2006, 11:29 AM
AH HA, SPY PICTURES. Am I being stocked? j/k

Thanks for the concern BigD. A front bumper is being built as you wonder about all of this so I can tie in the cage...

Canadian, didn't you understand the second part about wtf, eh?

Prett cool man, it's neat to se someone do something totally different to meet the needs and funds of what he wants. just like everyone else, you've got a capable rig but different setup, that might actually influence others to go that road. do what you want and ignore the negative coments from people that might think that short arms, 35's, and a locked dana 35 is the shit. it's looking good, keep up the good work, and post more pictures.

Are you doing anything to reinforce the uni-body where you cut the rear?

08-01-2006, 10:13 PM

j

First off im going to apologize for the outburst.

Should ask questions befor assuming. What reinforcement are you making to the unibody?

I guess my first statement was off base to not seeing anything like that. just cant imagine a vehicle that will structurally last any amount of time with out being full frammed when running leafs. If youve got it planned out id deffinatly be glued to your buildup.

keep us posted.

Eazy now kids, it takes time...

For now I thought I'd post more pics of my area of focus now. I would spend more time thinking about just the reinforcement of the unibody, but I want to focus more thinking on how I want to attempt to integrate and replace it with tube. A lot of the unibody is gone now and it is weak. I know you think I can do it?!?! I'm using a William Lowbuck tube bender....

A few shots trying to see where I want the C and where to integrate it
