Keith, Scott and I had a great time today. Lots of mountain goats at the top of North Fork. Here are a few pics, Scott and Keith took a bunch too. The Red Cone sign says 12,801 feet!

Indeed it was a good time.

Red Cone had a few more dug out areas than previous years but it seems the famous descents are nothing to write home about anymore. Still a very scenic trail.

Radical Hill is also being dug out more than previous years and towards the top there are some pretty tight cliff shelf areas. Was pretty fun. We saw goats up there as they scurried across the tundra.

On our way to St Johns we decided to take a trail I have not done before North Fork which takes you to Tiger Road which leads you to Breckenridge. The goats were a plenty and not as skidish as the herd on Radical Hill.

We drove around the Dillon Res into Keystone and up Loveland Pass to get home. Then drove the access roads to passed Idaho Springs. There was a massive truck fire which slowed traffic on 70 to a crawl.

With all the different routes on the trail and the highways it made a great day in the mountains.

Yep, I thought Radical Hill was pretty narrow in spots! Not to be done in a full size rig.

All those roads were fun, starting on 285 and ending back on I70, a big loop in the mountains. Just out of Golden, on 93, we passed another vehicle on fire. Must have been the day of fires.

Not counting on it, but I hope so

I thought Radical Hill also seems rockier than usual this year near the top which raises the pucker factor in the narrow steep areas.

Curt I would agree. Was nice to have more of a challenge yesterday. It seems we got it all. Decent wheeling, decent views, decent folks and some cool wildlife.

Awesome shots guys.

Not quite the same area, but I am heading up to the San Juans to run a few passes in a week and a half. I hope I am so lucky as to find goats in my viewfinder as well.

The goats live up around elevations between 10 and 14,000 feet and along the cliff edges. I do not know of any trails in the San Juans that have goats or sheep on them but it seems reasonable escpecially goats. Sheep are a little less common. You will need to be at the ultra high elevations in any event to see them. If you see something that looks like a small Beaver but without the flat tail that is called a Marmon and you will see them around timberline in the rocks. The San Juans do have some black bears but not likely that you will see one. Their scat is all over the place though. Which answers the age old question of do bears shit in the woods? Have fun and if you get to the central part of the state look us up. Or at least post your iten and perhaps someone will be in the area.

One thing I see quite frequently in the San Juans at high elevation between Ouray and Lake City is large herds of sheep with sheep dogs. Make sure not to get out of your truck cause the dogs are very protective of the sheep and will come after you. I also have seen Black Bear up in the Yankee Boy Basin area, but no mountain goats.

Interesting.

I completely forgot to mention the Snipes and Jackelopes. To find the Snipes just bang two sticks together and they will come out typically around sun down. I have not actually seen a Jackelope but from all accounts you may see one of those too. Let us know.

We should be in CO the weekend of the 6th (Thurs-Sun). It will be my WJ with 4-Runner with us. Right now it looks like we will be doing the Alpine loop (Engineer and Cinammon Passes), bag a 14'er or two while we are in the area, and possibly do the Imogene/Ophir Pass loop. Not really tough stuff, but elevations of 12-13,000'+ should make for a good time.

I've seen my share of marmots, elk, and deer,a few bear, antelope, etc... sheep and the goats would be very nice.

Down here in AZ, we recently had a spike in the spotted snipe population... local predators have moved to cooler climates for the summer, and they are taking over the place!

Hmmm I did not realize the Spotted Snipe could be found that far south. Incidnetly we may be in Arizona on the Big Mountain Res in September.

I saw a great big Elk with huge antlers today right off Wadsworth between Yale & Morison Rd.

Quite the specticle with all the cars pulled off the road & people running everywhere to get a good look at it.

I think it is the same Elk that was seen grazing in a small ravine just off Union between Jewl & Florida about 2 months ago.

Keith, John. The check engine light I got over Loveland Pass was this. P0107.

Now it could very well be this.
By the way the light was out today( Tue.) when I started it.

Scott,

My ZJ threw a low/high voltage MAP sensor error too in May and it turns out that the center wire on the harness broke and I had to splice a new piece in to solve it. If I removed the MAP sensor from the firewall and zip tied it to the the master cyl vac line keeping pressure towards the engine it would be OK. But just now it dawned on me that you have a V8 and your MAP sensor is most likely on the throttle body so that thought is bad. Double check and make sure that the 5.9 MAP sensor is on the throttle body and that they didn't move it away from the engine heat to the firewall due to the extra heat that the 5.9's had. Still it might be the in the wiring harness that goes to the engine control module and you can test it by checking the ohms through each wire. -Todd

Thanks, I'll check the wiring for it. It has not gone off since going over Loveland Pass though. And yes it is on the TB.

The only thing that does not fit the TSB, is the fact that it's a Mopar Performance PCM so it might not be the TSB. It did go off at altitude( 12,000 ft+)lol.
