Well my buddy with the pathfinder and I spent the weekend bending up some tube, ghetto notching, and burning this thing together. It came out pretty well for the most part, the roof has a nice x, as well as behind the b-pillars. Headroom is a little scarce but its as high as we could get it. The rear will be used to make a little rack to carry tool boxes, coolers, and stuff.

I think I will be using some of the same designs on mine in a couple of months. I think it came out well for my first cage though. Leave some input.

Not enough trianglation :D

From what I've learned about cages in the next lil bit it looks pretty damned good.

BTW this cage build was inspired by Richard's last truck:

the general design is good. although; it looks asthough you gues arn't that familiar with the bender. The lines aren't super tight to the interior. the cage will hold up fine but it just looks a bit bulky.

good progress! hopfully it will save his live in the next crash

its true about the bender. we just got the thing a few months ago, but practice makes perfect.

seems kinda far away from the sides of the B pillar

Looking good, and yes it is always nice to 'practice' on other peoples projects before doing you own (lol)

I'm definately no cage expert, so take my comments with a grain of salt. It would be nice if the front a pillar tubes could have been like 2-4 inches closer to the a pillar, dash, etc... They seem to be pretty far away. Any shots of the node in the roof from directly below? It is kind of hard to tell what that intersection looks like.

The a pillars are squeezed up right next to the dash so there is no going forward on thos things. If it were my rig I would have cut up the dash a bit and ran the tube right along the contour of the a pillar.

As for the b pillar, they curve inward down at the bottom so without alot of bends it was not possible to push them farther out. The purpose of this cage is not protect structure of the stock pillars but to provide a rigid self supporting structure in case of serious rollovers.

I like it, but have not done any research on case design.

It looks good. It is kinds low but it is difficult to get it really tight to the roof, especially if you like the headliner. Get some padding now. Nice work...........

The x on your roof is different from what I've seen in the past but looks pretty solid. Still intersect but adds a gusset at the same time. I think it would have been good to have your roof x intersect with the a pillars in the same node. Other than that it looks great...especially for your first cage and new bender.

Questions though...how did you complete the welds on top of the cage. Did you cut holes through the floor...lower it down, weld it up then raise it up into place?

Just noticed I'm a couple months late on this thread but what the hell. Have you started on your cage yet Puma?
