So it begins, been talking with Clay Egan and a few other people and the crawler begins. Got some money from my truck that I wrecked and the girlfriend took off and I miss the offroad world so now it starts. I ordered a chassis from shaffers offroad and they are building it to the UROC specs. I am planning on running a D60 up front as well as out back. For the motor I was thinking about the 4.3 Vortec V6 backed up with a turbo 350, and an Atlas II 4.3 tcase. Its going to be set up for me to compete in the UROC Extreme West Series in the modified class and W.E.ROCK western regional championships in the pro modified class. Im trying to give my self enuff time to get it done before the 2007 series, gotta work out the bugs and what not. Its going to be a long build up but I am very exicded about it. I will post pics when I pick up the chassis and other goodies from shaffers in a few weeks. Any imput on this build up would be great!

Look into the Tera 60's. They are super beefy and you can get the high clearance ones for even extra ground clearance. Good luck with the build, it very respectable to get back up on that horse after your accident.

Thanks guys, Im really excited about this whole thing.

I planned on a V6 just because I dont think I need the power of a V8. The V6 has got all the TQ I need. What does everyone else think good idea or bad? Plus the rig will be lighter with a smaller motor.

links for the chassis, but I got 2x4 for the frame rails insted of round tube per the UROC rule book.

Girl friends are line replaceable items. You know that you will not get shit for her trade in, but you will find that the new models are terrific! It's best that your are moving on.

I am glad that you are moving forward. With any recovery the starting up is the hardest part. I am looking forward to see you at GSSW and GSW in the near future.

Kraqa
07-01-2006, 04:57 PM
right on!depending on what gearing combo and tires i think the V6 is a smarter option. unless if yoru going to an aluminum small block. THe v6 will be decently powerful and shoudl have the torque where you need it with a high rev'r. are you going with rear steer?

RollinBallsDeep
07-01-2006, 05:39 PM
no, no rear steer. in the modified class we have to go with different building specs than the unlimited class and what not. so in the UROC spec book rule 4.16.11.4 says "multi-axle/rear steering is not permitted."

As for gearing I am running 5.13's with ARB's front and rear. As for tires I talked to Creighton over at Maxxis and they are going to be having me run their 37" Trepador Competition tire.

RollinBallsDeep
07-16-2006, 12:48 AM
Just wanted to give everyone a little up date on this thing. Talked to Dave at Shaffers yesterday and the Tera CRD 60's wont be in for about a month. So I went ahead and changed the gearing from the 5.13's to 5.38's and got rid of the ARBs and went to some Detroit's:D. Kind of figured that not being able to use my legs and trying to steer, and mess with all the contros(shifter, twin stick for t-case and 2 levers for line lock) its going to be a mess:rolleyes: and I also didnt need two more switches for the ARBs, less stuff I have to worrie about. I think it would be ok just have to put everything close together, any ideas? Im supposed to get pics of the chassis build on monday so I will get them up as soon as I get them.

Well it will be done in a month and a half tops. So get on top of the tcase skid.
As far as everthing else goes, it gets its motor(4.3L), tranny(700r4), and tcase(Lovell 357) droped in, in about two weeks as well as the howe hydro assist. Everything else is sitting in a big pile waiting to go together after the motor and everything gets put in. I really excited about the hole thing but its costing a ton of money. Ill just put it this way. I have used my Southwest air lines card on this whole project and have gotten 3 round trip tickets!!! More pics to come as progress moves along

Just have to say I was out at Marc's house this weekend and he let me take the buggy for a spin, I have to say that was one of the funnest things I have EVER driven.

I had my soon to be 7 year old son with me and the whole drive home he kept talking about how I needed to buy a buggy.

If you ever get a chance to drive one, take it!!!!!

It was a BLAST thanks for letting me take it for a spin Marc, I am sure I will be back out at some point to drive it around the property again!!!
