Looking at buying a small (1/4 ton?) pick up to use as a daily drive and parts hauler for the Jeep. Basically something with a 4banger and a stick shift, I want to get some decent mileage to a tank of gas.
Want some input on the many different small trucks. Problems you might have heard about what models.

Front runners are either a Ford Ranger or a Chevy S10.

My choices are Nissan Frontier and Toyota Taco or whatever their small truck is called.

Yea, Tacos are horribly over priced imo.

However, for me it's beater pick up or Claytons.....arg...

A Chevy Luv :smt044

Seriously though - I'd go for an 80's-something Toyota. They usually go for less than $2k around here.

I'll most likely get a Yota.

Or I'll just blow the cash on Claytons.

If you weren't in Canada I'd sell you my 93 nissan hard body 4x4 5-speed. By the way that is the ugliest embodyment of that same fucking station wagon that Subaru has been peddling for years. Way to find a way to make the station wagon even uglier, Subaru. Good thing those are already discontinued...aren't they?

I'd look for a Comanche with a 2.5 or a 4.0l but I have a gas guzzling Ram 1500 with a thristy 5.9l V-8.

I'm with Stinkoman on the ugly ass Subaru

now that you mention it a 4.0L 5spd 2 door XJ or MJ truck would work pretty good for haulin stuff.

yeah, i loved my comanche, but i made the mistake of driving it in the winter here in Vt and it rusted to peices.
I ocassionally see nice ones, but they are rare. I'll get another one someday!

Seeing the picture of the Subaru Baja reminded me of another vehicle I'd pimp:

btw, the VW pickup isn't a real pickup. it is unibody and it doesn't have seperation between the cab and bed. so when you put a heavy load in it, you can't open the doors!!!!!
I have a few friends that all had them here in stowe, great for bikes and stuff like that, but when we put an engine or tranny in the back, you had to dukes of hazard the doors.
I have never tried it, but the brat is probably the same way.

Baja has not been discontinued.. In fact I have heard rumors of a 2008 with a boxer diesel... But there is definatly going to be a 2007 model..

I would totally pimp one if I could fit some 24" rims on it...:rofl:

I just picked up this 87 yota pickup. It's a 4banger 5 speed, and I get like 20 something miles to the gallon. Man this thing is great! Oh and I got it for 1300.

Nice.
If I got a Yota I'd want an 85.
I'm still undecided.

Mine is a 91 GMC Sonoma S15
It has a 5 speed and V6...
It sure beats the gas milage in my ZJ!
Cost me nothing too! My father-in-law bought a ML320gave me the S15.
I wonder what he'll get next to send the ML320 my way??:D

actually you'd be better off buying a beater toyota, taking the ZJ back to stock, daily driving the ZJ, and then building the yota into a hardcore trail rig.

ILikeMud

Yea but I've got too much cash and abuse into the ZJ to return it to stock.

I'm gonna keep driving the ZJ for now, have to fix 1 or 2 small things and then it should be just fine for a daily driver....kind of.

idk durability-wise, but you can fine somewhat new nissan's for pretty dirt cheap. my friend nick jsut picked up a 99 2wd 4 popper 5 speed fronteir ex cab for like 1500 bucks with a little over 100k on it. its a great dd, be bought it fof my other friend who bought it new back in 99 and he didnt have any major issues with it. jsut somehtin to consider... im a yota guy for a dd tho... my moms t-100 jsut rolled 194k the other day, still looks beautiful, 3.4, 5 speed, ex cab, 4wd, an she gets about 21 mpg highway. lol, jsut did the brakes about a month ago adn the stock calipers were still on it, and did a front cv while i was in there, all factory original tho. yotas last for friggen everrr
