We need to send emails to counter this attack on Moab and the Red Rock. See the email below. Go to the site. See what is written. Then send an appropriate [Edit: your own] email to counter this:

[EDIT:] Do not send their email!!!!!!

Dear NRDC BioGems Defender,

We need your immediate help to block an unprecedented attack on some of our
nation's most magnificent public wildlands.

Legislation has just been proposed that would irrevocably harm some of the most
spectacular expanses of the Redrock Wilderness in southern Utah.

The sponsors of this proposed legislation, Senator Robert Bennett (R-UT) and
Representative Jim Matheson (D-UT), will accept public comments on their
proposal only until April 19.

Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/redrock/takeaction.asp
right away and express your opposition to the Washington County Growth and
Conservation Act.

As currently drafted, this legislation would protect only a fraction of the
Zion-Mojave, an area proposed for protection under the Redrock Wilderness Act.
It would deny protection for more than 200,000 acres of lands that deserve to
be included in our nation's wilderness system. And it would further jeopardize
America's Redrock Wilderness by rolling back protections that have been in
place for more than 15 square miles of wilderness quality lands.

Under the proposal, taxpayers would be asked to foot the bill for selling or
giving away public land in the region worth hundreds of millions or perhaps
billions of dollars.

Go to http://www.savebiogems.org/redrock/takeaction.asp
immediately and tell Senator Bennett and Representative Matheson to develop a
proposal that would adequately protect the irreplaceable Redrock Wilderness for
the enjoyment and enrichment of all Americans.

Thank you for all of your efforts to save these magnificent wildlands.

Sincerely,

Frances Beinecke
President
Natural Resources Defense Council

Any links to what this actually "entails"?

"Protect" and "environment" are pretty big wide words without details

this section of the predrafted letter sounds to be against using wilderness for offroad vehicles:

"The Washington County Growth and Conservation Act would turn over possibly hundreds of miles of public lands for off-road vehicle use without considering other recreational users or conservation measures. Nearly three-quarters of public BLM lands in the county are already open to motorized use. There needs to be a greater balance in protecting this fragile landscape for other recreational users."

but some here might still choose to support it because it is against:

"This proposal also calls for over 50 square miles of wilderness to be sold or given away for development. America's public lands should not be sold off at the expense of American taxpayers, the owners of these lands. This short-sighted approach would unwisely destroy tens of thousands of acres of open space and promote sprawl that would forever degrade the serene and beautiful landscape of southwestern Utah. "

i guess i can't support it even if i wanted as i'm canadian. but hopefully that little bit of info will help the others decide.

DON"T SIGN THAT!!! What the hell are you doing man? The Redrock Wilderness Act is that BS that SUWA is trying to pull over. It's complete BS and supporting this would mean you're supporting that which means you're subscribing to SUWA's brand of brain washing and asking to have thousands of miles of roads shut down because SUWA thinks they should be.

get educated about the subject before you get involved please. If you want some information on how to support multiple use organizations and legistlation that supports responsible, managed, land use let me know. DON'T SUPPORT THE RED ROCK WILDERNESS ACT IF YOU EVER WANT TO USE THE ROADS THAT ARE THERE AND HAVE BEEN THERE FOR DECADES.

are you asking us to support this initiative to block the bill, or send emails in support of senator bennet's legislation?

if you want us to block the bill, I must whole heartedly object.

I want to support this bill. I would like the land sale [READ: Land Grab] part of the bill deleted!
