so i finally came up with a name for my rig. I bought it off my mom mid oct '04, and am finally starting to wheel the correct way. i hit the dirt soon after i got my license, but back then i was more into doing donuts in the mud and drifting. typical high school kid garbage.

my '02 WJ has QD, 3.73's, UC suspension, blah blah blah. It is mostly stock, with the exception of a carsound hi flow cat, homebrew intake, poly rear sway bushings, and that's about it.

i'm not sure how far this project will go, maybe one day i'll go longarms.

anyhow, below are pics of my first real wheeling trip, went to wildlife management areas on Hawkins Rd. and Colliers Mills in Jackson, NJ... went with a '98 XJ on 31s and a Isuzu trooper on 32s

i'm the goofy lookin fella in the sweatshirt and hat, dylan is the man in black, and zack is the other guy in the pic. shea took the picture.

dylan sizing up the hole- we saw a log or two in the middle of it and we couldn't move it out of there using nearby branches.

getting ready to go up high point. this was probably the hardest obstacle of the day. there were rocks, stumps, off-camber areas and it was important to pick a decent line and not slip too much. it's much tougher than it looks in the pics.

dylan got 95% percent of the way and then picked a poor line at the very top. his open diffs really hurt him here as all he was doing was lighting up his tires. shea spotted him to go back down and try again. i'm not sure if this was his first or second run, probably his second.

zack manuevering through the trees. certain parts are tight, but as the widest rig there and the longest wheelbase i had to move at a snail's pace through areas to ensure that i could get through. i managed to get through the day without any pinestriping.

view from high point- bit of a shitty picture. those things sticking out from the tops of the trees, etc are rides at Six Flags Great Adventure, also in Jackson.

Dylan on the descent from high point. I'm not sure if Dylan/Zack had trouble with this one, but this is where i had a tough time due to my stock lift and OEM tires. i had to cut right to avoid some rocks, and then left and right once again to clear the trees and ensure i didnt slide down the hill sideways. i had just slid by the trees and had to more or less skid my way down from there. the tires seem to make all the difference in the world.

cool stuff looking good, keep up the work, is it just me or does that Isuzu look like a mini van with a tire carrier on the back

No, you're right, it does.

With the factory wheels painted black and 32 BFG AT's, it sure did look good though.

Not long after that trip he got rid of it (gave it to his dad as a DD rather than driving his newer Ford dually) and got a Scion Xa :smt030

You wrote that you went to the wildlife management areas on Hawkins Rd. and Colliers Mills in Jackson, NJ...

Can you tell us a little more about this place? Any special requiremnts to get in? Any restriction on dates you can go, fees, permits, silly rules etc...

I'm also not too far from you...in Westchester NY; so I'm curious about any place to wheel that's not that far away.

The place is huge....

No requirements to get in since you're from NY- however if a given Jeeper is from NJ & they fall under the criteria of the lift laws, they'll need that red stability sticker. Some of the rangers dont know about the lift laws, some do, it's a 50/50 shot of getting caught if you dont have one.

Most of it is pretty simple fire roads, with the occasional mudhole or hilclimb. I've only been out there a few times - I honestly dont wheel much (the jeep thing is just a small hobby to keep me out of too much trouble :D ) , but i've been told it can get REALLY wet out there sometimes.

No fees, no night wheeling, and i wouldn't recommend going this weekend as i believe it's the very end of one of the hunting seasons. Also, it's really easy to get lost out in Colliers Mills and end up in the territory of Lakehurst Naval Base.

Thats about it as far as rules go, of course dont dump and if you can pick up whatever trash you have- You'll find that in certain spots it can be pretty nasty as far as people doing illegal dumping. Sad...

The conservation officers are hit-or-miss - some of them are cool, some of them will try to throw the book at you- just follow the rules given and you'll be in like flint.

You might wanna print out some of the topogrpahical maps around the 'net- in NJ not all of the no-trespassing zones are posted so if you get caught at a place you're not supposed to be...Have fun.

UPDATE

finally put on my magnaflow 5X8 muffler, found that my "wheel bearing noise" was actually my D30 crying uncle. thank god for warranty  . leave it to me to break a 30 on 29.5" tires, LOL

the noise is partially still there, i'm assuming the dealer re-used the gears or the wheel bearing is on its way out.

my dash tweeters were making more snaps crackles and pops than a fresh bowl of rice crispies so i yanked them out and bought rockford fosgate 3.5" 2 way speakers. i'm still in the process of making them fit so i havent used them yet.

found where my bumpsteer is coming from, TRE on the top of the steering knuckle has about 1/2" of free play. tie rod doesnt take much effort to pivot either, so i think i'll replace all of those at once.

looks like i'll be purchasing 255/70/17 pirelli scorpion atr's within the next week. think i'll get some 1/2" wheel spacers too.

things to replace/buy asap:
3 TREs
adj. trackbar
tires
kevins HD tb bushings/shock kit

wish list:
1/2" wheel spacers

Yes, that is my just-installed Teraflex BB shattered in the fawking coil spring. Long story short Kolak was nice enough to send me a RE front BB next day air.

To do list:
Clean TB
CPS & CKP (have both, just need to install)
Replace TB bolt with correct sized metric bolt (have, need to install), currently have 1" of play at the frame end :-X
