recently i have been hearing alot of clunking from the front end. i tightned up all the LCA. t-bar bolts and re greased everything. after al that i finally saw the problem the uca bushing over the pumpkin is shot. the metal bushing is hanging out 1-2".

how hard is it to get a new one of these back in there? probably gonna just leave it a couple weeks, you only really need 1 uca

Shouldn't be too bad. Without looking at it I'm imagining it's a rubber bushing with a metal shell. Clean the bore up good, maybe a little grease on the shell and whack it with a hammer. I'll look at my FSM to see if it's what I'm thinking.

Sometimes you gotta burn it out.

hpd30 right? the metal shell gets pressed out and the new bushing with new outter "metal shell" gets pressed in

if the metal casing is hangin out it is loose and is NOT pressed in there right! fix it! a MOOG kit of two of them is only like $17.xx at oreilly's

From my FSM

AXLE BUSHING REPLACEMENT
When servicing the bushing on the right side axle bracket, use Spacer 7932-3 (J35581-3) between the bracket ears.
(1) Assemble and install Bushing Removal/Installer refer to (Fig 4).
(2) Press out bushing by tightening the nut
(3) Position the new bushing on the Installer.
(4) Press out bushing by tightening the nut (Fig 5). I think that should say "press in bushing...".

They list a few special tools:
J-35581-1
J-35581-2
J-21474-18
J-21474-19

All these are probably part of a kit.

I'm sure it could be done without the special tools, but will probably be harder and take longer. If you do alot of suspension work it might be worth picking one up.

I can post up the pics from the FSM tomorrow, my CD's are at work.

They aren't all that tight in there. A balljoint press works real good on them.

One thing to think about..if the metal shell is coming out there is a chance the the bore on the "ear" of the diff housing has become worn. If you press in a new bushing the fit may not be tight enough and the new one may loosen up.

Just trying to help.

Edit: In case anyone else now or in the future is interested here's the pics from the FSM of the process, and the tools.

are you sure it is actually coming out? for some reason the bushing is actually wider than the mount on those, so it does stick out some.

redneck way - pull the arm off, find a socket thats roughly the same diameter. press out, then press in a new one.
