I am a Lincoln or Miller fan myself. I've used both and they work great.

buy a bottle of c25 and some solid core .030 wire and do the sheetmetal, then bumper it up to .035 wire for like minor 3/16" welding I did some ok welding with a lincoln sp135 with .035 flux core on some 3/16" material

i dont really mind thick stuff with flux, if you dont mind ugly welds, but i just really like the consitency of gas

Check out some of the Hobart Migs on ebay.

If your welds on thick stuff are ugly with flux core it's most likely operator error. I have a Lincoln 135 and never felt the need to use gas, but the option is there. I like mine.

the flux cores wont lay a bead like a gas- the gas is clean and consistent- with the flux it seems like the consistency along the spool differs, or if its been sitting out a while-
