i was over at my friends house doing some fender trimming and fixing a few small problems the jeep was having and after we were done i was back the the jeep up out of his driveway and it just died and we cant get it to start back up. we first thought i might not have fuel so we put 5 gallons in it. that didnt solve anything. we know the fuel pump is working but thats about the extent of my knowledge. i dont understand what could be wrong with it and the damn thing just wont turn over. im gonna try and see if it is getting spark again because we couldnt make one out yesterday. other thatn that i cant figure out what the hell is wrong with my jeep. any input would be helpful. thanks.g

How about some specs on the Jeep so we know what were dealing with?

the jeep has the 4.0. today i worked on it and first checked to see if the spark plugs were getting any spark. theres none at all. so i replaced the distributor and this did nothing. i then changed the coil and this did nothing. i know its not a fuel sending problem because you can smell the gas coming from the exhaust when trying to crank the engine. i dont know what else to look for and im pretty sure the problem is in the ingnition if the plugs arent creating spark.

Disconnect your battery for 5-10 minutes, reconnect it and try again. That will solve 89% of all ZJ electrical and starting problems.

sounds computer ("brain box") related to me if you changed the coil and you're still getting nothing.

Send a PM to DRBOOST and/or Dasvettemeister and see if they have any suggestions...those are the guys I would turn to with questions if i had your problem.

Did you change/inspect the plugs themselves??

Without reading any of the other post I will ask if you check the Crank Position Sensor..

It will just go out and your rig wont start.. Cost about $25 and isnt that hard to change.. (On the drivers side at the top of the tranny...

checked all fuses, all the plugs and everything else everyone has suggested except the crank position thingy. i have no idea what else to do i might be taking it to a shop because im not good with this electrical stuff and i have to drive the jeep back to school in 2 days.

CPS is at the top of the bell housing on the drivers side.. 2 8mm screws and a plug.. Change it before you pay a shop ...It will save you Lots of money..
